Atlantis vacation A review of Atlantis - Royal Towers

We spent 5 days and 4 nights at Atlantis in the Beach Tower, the lowest priced rooms at this sprawling very overpriced complex. We did the gourmet dining plan and glad we did. However, the gratuity keeps climbing (not included in any plan)as you choose the better meals on the menus. Drinks are not included in the plan and are terribly expensive. The gourmet restaurants are all 5-star and super good with excellent service and hospitality. In fact, every employee on the premises was very courteous and helpful. Forget about gambling in the casino....the odds on winning at the slots are miniscule...no paybacks for sure. The beach sand is made up of finely-ground limestone and is very abrasive on bare feet, so be sure to wear sand shoes or some kiind. The beach is also very short and has a constant flow of annoying locals trying to sell you something at very high prices. The pools are excellent and the aquariums are world-class and a must see. The rooms are just average and very overpriced. However, the mattress was excellent. The local water is awful so you must buy bottled water at $5.25 for 48 ounces. Bring snacks in your luggage if you don't want to pay $5 for a bag of pretzels or $4 for a Mounds bar. So, we did it once, but never again. Overall, we had a good time.
