We had pre-booked to stay March 04, requesting a non-smoking room ( two young kids, two asthmatics in party). When we got to our room, sure enough it stank of smoke. Why? Because smoke was coming in from the non-smoking but connecting room next door. The view out of the room was thoughtfully blocked by the pick-up truck of said smoker, it turns out, rather than block his own view.

Went to reception who rather than deal with the guest breaking their rules - guess what, "he's a regular" - offer us an ioniser. Yeah right, that'll work. The hotel with a half-empty car park was apparently full so they couldn't move us.

Staff were the most incredibly rude and unhelpful you could wish for. Almost worth going back just to witness it again - on second thoughts, I'll watch Fawlty Towers.

So off we went to the Best Western next door - cheaper for much better room and very friendly staff. It really doesn't take much, you know.

We are regular Best Westerners / cardholders when we travel the US and generally appreciate it. I guess for some individual, franchised hotels though you are worth only a couple of night's stay and don't see the bigger corporate picture.

If you stay here, I wish you better luck than us. Friends did stay here a few months earlier and loved it - recommended it.

This is written nearly a year later but sadly my views have not really mellowed.
