Ants in the Room. A review of Hyatt Place Ft. Lauderdale 17th Street Convention Center
We stayed at this hotel after a cruise from Port Everglades. When we got to the room, we noticed it was a bit run down, but didn't complain because it was only one night. But, when we got to the bed and turned on the light, we noticed that an ARMY of tiny ants was making its way across the wall and behind the bed. We called to complain and asked to move to another room. The front desk staff told us that the hotel was full and we couldn't move. So, we asked, what do we do about all these bugs in the room. Are they tiny ants? the front desk clerk asked? (Clearly they had heard this complaint before.) They offered to send someone up to spray insecticide all over the room. We refused that, not wanting to sleep in a chemical fog all night. So, they sent two men up to wipe the walls down with some kind of orange oil. We ended up pulling the beds out from the wall and sleeping with the lights on all night as that seemed to discourage some of the ant traffic. We did not ask for a refund, just chalking this up to a less than great travel experience that we will not repeat.
