An Owner's Review A review of Water's Edge Resort & Spa
As an 4+ year timeshare owner that lives locally, we have both stayed onsite in the ocean view sleep 6 condos 3X during our vacation week end of May, and used all ameneties year round. Overall, we find the resort to be generally well-maintained and very classy, though it does have some areas that need addressed. Pools/deck areas indoor and out are clean but small, lounges and chairs in short supply during busy summer months, and both pools are shared by children-sometimes even by persons purposefully ignoring posted signs and toting babies (with and without swim diapers-EWWWWW). Seasonal outdoor (women's) beach/pool shower room is in serious need of updating, though year round indoor shower room is nice enough with dry Sauna, complimentary towels, lockers, soap, and shampoo. Indoor jacuzzi is adequate, but outdoor is very small and disappointing, often not working properly, and seldom hot enough. Seasonal outdoor snack bar and rental tents, floats, recreational gear, and kayaks are a nice plus, as are complimentary towels beachside. Beach is clean with many lounges, is generally quite crowded in the summer months, and sometimes the ocean water can be nasty at low tide. Seasonal outdoor pool/beach areas are a hike down a very steep hill. Supervised, free, daily (seasonal) activites for the kids are a nice plus, as are the weekly (seasonal) scheduled nature walks, movies, $1 Bingo, and (non-complimentary) beach BBQ's for all.
No matter the weather, ocean views from select tables at the indoor and outdoor restaurant and bars can be breathtaking, though eating in the main indoor dining rooms at night can be slow, pricey, and too rich, with few choices for children or teens. The early morning weekday breakfast buffet in the oceanview dining room is peaceful and pleasant, with an attending chef making cook to order omelets, and formal waitstaff refilling juice and coffee often. Lunches inside are very nice and well attended as well. Specialty drinks can be pricey, but are well made, and a less pricey, tasty lite menu can be had at the indoor lounge as well.
Fully equipped sleep 6 condos with oceanviews, balconies, an upper loft with beds/extra bathroom are really the only way to go if staying more than a few days, especially with kids! We always stay in BLDG. # 1 or 3, and have not been disappointed yet. Always ask if yours is at the top or bottom of the hill, and how far parking is from there! It matters! (Ask about their golf cart luggage shuttle service if you have lots of stuff!)
Overall, a very classy and well-appointed resort, with a new full service on-site spa just opening this year. Book early, go just when the outdoor pool/beach opens (Memorial Day) or just after the summer crowd leaves (mid-end Sept.) Skip June, July, Aug., but if you do book the 4th of July week, their fireworks show over the LI Sound from the resort lawn is a breathtaking party not to be missed! Enjoy!
