An average value A review of Garfield Suites Hotel
My family and I stayed one night at the Garfield Suites for a weekend getaway. The rooms here are very large, but not at all modern. The decor in our room (14th floor) greatly needed updating, as did the television in the bedroom. We did not use the kitchen appliances, but they were clearly dated. The bathroom was not any larger than in a budget motel, but was manageable for three people. Its age also showed in the overall cleanliness - we'd give that a 6.5 out of 10 - barely passing.
I also wouldn't give the highest praise to the friendliness of the hotel staff. Upon check-in the clerk told me what a "long day" it had been - the inappropriateness of that comment should be covered in Customer Service 101. Evidently not all of the 1-room suites have a fold-out sofa - that was gonna be $25 more. We upgraded to a 2 BR suite for $10 so our son wouldn't have to sleep on the floor or the couch cushions. I was also given a hard time about the breakfast voucher (for $5) that came with my Orbitz reservation. Since the voucher didn't show up on his computer, I had to bring my confirmation sheet to the front desk. I should note that we ran into the hotel manager on one elevator trip and he was very kind and interested in our stay.
Final note: this hotel does NOT have a pool - however, the fitness room is disproportionately nice! Also, there are no ice machines (every room has a freezer and ice cube trays). You can buy some at the front desk for $2/bag.
This would be a good place for a larger group that needs more space and doesn't care about tons of amenities or modernization.
