Amazing place for the price!!! A review of Hotel Lumen - A Kimpton Hotel
My husband and I chose this hotel for a vacation to Dallas. We wanted a pet-friendly, NON-highrise hotel in an upscale area that was pleasant to walk in. This is directly across the street from SMU and adjacent to beautiful residential neighborhoods full of $700K+ homes. We weren't sure what to expect as they had JUST opened shortly before our arrival and the price we paid per night was $134.
Everything certainly exceeded our expectations. The rooms are beautifully appointed, and the staff was very attentive and helpful. I loved the modern, clean, but warm and earthy decor - MUCH more chic and aesthetically pleasing than your typical sterile, corporate Hilton, IMO.
The shower was wonderful - love the body jets and the fact that it's big enough for two. Of course, sometimes it was hard to get in the shower without getting the floor wet. I also liked the shampoo, conditioner and soap they provide - reminded me of Aveda or other natural products.
They were WONDERFUL to our dog. We have a 40lb well-behaved dog, and they were extremely accomodating, even providing a large, high quality dog bed, a stainless water bowl and a pig ear! They allowed us to leave her crated in the room when we went out, which was nice - some hotels don't allow that.
We went to their restaurant the night it opened for the very first time. I'm glad we got to try it - it was good. The Mac n Cheese was the most unique item on the menu - sounds low brow but it was quite good, if a little salty. They hadn't worked out the kinks enough for a full-on room service menu, but they would have given us whatever we wanted. It was that type of hotel - small enough to really accomodate individual requests.
We LOVED our stay there - an extremely comfortable place, ESPECIALLY if you have a dog. The neighborhood could not be more perfect for dog owners. We run with ours a lot every day, and we could easily take a short, scenic run through the neighborhood, past the countryclub, to Highland Park Village (where they have Chanel, Hermes and Jimmy Choo boutiques)and have Starbucks in the morning.
I highly recommend this boutique hotel, ESPECIALLY if you can get a rate like $135/night - far and above simliarly priced hotels we've stayed at in the past!!!
