Almost cancelled... A review of Marcus Whitman Hotel & Conference Center

My daughter and I were making a quick visit to Whitman College and I thought the hotel looked interesting so I made reservations. About a week later I was checking out the internet for things to do in Walla Walla and I read three uncomplimentary reviews on the hotel (the only reviews posted at that time). I actually tried to cancel based on these reviews, but everywhere was full.We arrived tired and hungry after driving all day. The hotel staff went out of their way to be accomodating. The restaurant was full when we arrived and we were too tired to go anywhere else Though they don't have room service, the host put us in a little area off the bar and let us order off the menu and even offered to bring our food up to the room. The food was good, though I should know better than to order soft shell crab on the west coast. The room was spacious and clean. I wish we had been able to stay longer as the owner was there and would have taken us on a tour.Renovating a historic building is daunting at best, but a hotel and restaurant that then must cater to the public is a project only for those who are a little crazy and out of the ordinary. Thank goodness there are still people like that. Good job.
