All the basics in place - needs better finishing touches A review of Floris Ustel Midi
I won a break here with a product I bought and was disheartened to read one review on this site that talked of the dodgy area - oh dear, I thought, I've been stitched up here. However, upon arrival I found the hotel staff very friendly and the public areas and rooms very clean. The rooms were of a basic-to-standard European three-star quality, so this was fine for me (as I prefer to be out all day when visiting cities anyway). One complaint: the bathroom was spotless, with great and plentiful towels, but for three-star hotel, can we have better (and more) shampoo and shower gel? Two small sachets are not enough. Another complaint: the breakfast was OK but nothing special: adequate at this level and I've had worse, but I've also had far better in three stars. Here are areas to improve - but as I say, as I wasn't paying, I can't comment on the value (although others here praise this highly).
However, to my mind the area was nowhere near as bad as one writer here suggests. Sure, its one of the less wealthy parts of town with some of the ethnic communities shops and cafes lining some streets, but for me this made it a little more interesting and diverse. It's a good 20 minutes walk into the very centre of town, but it is handy for the Midi / Zuid (South) Station and has very good public transport right outside. So in sum, for those on a budget, this is a very good hotel.
