Absolutely the best! We loved the Hilo Honu Inn! A review of Hilo Honu Inn
We just got back from our visit to Hilo and couldn't wait to share our thoughts about the Hilo Honu Inn. First things first...the Hilo Honu Inn is absolutely wonderful, and we highly recommend it.
The Inn just recently opened for business and is centrally located in a residential neighborhood in Hilo, about 10 minutes from the airport and the Prince Kuhio Plaza (the local mall), and is right up the street from local attractions such as the Lyman Museum, the Farmers Market, and downtown shops and restaurants, and a very short drive away from the 'Imiloa Astronomy Center at the University of Hawaii Hilo, which opened earlier this year.
Even though we had a late flight into Hilo, Gay was there to warmly greet us and show us around our suite. We stayed in the Bali Hai Suite, which is an utter delight. The two-room suite is roomy and beautifully decorated. The sitting room has a large, comfy sofa and an A/C unit (yea!). The bedroom has a 4-post queen size bed, a window seat and a small refrigerator. Both rooms have hard wood floors, ceiling fans and TVs (with a good variety of cable TV channels - don't forget, prime time starts at 7 in Hawaii!). The bathroom has a beautiful teak cabinet with drawers, but the highlight of the bathroom is definitely the shower with its lovely tiles and the strong water pressure! No low-flow shower heads here. Wi-fi is available, but we didn't need it.
The Inn has two other rooms, an ocean-themed single (with a private bathroom) and a large Japan-themed suite (with a huge 2-person bathtub and a great view of Hilo all the way down to the ocean).
Breakfasts were scrumptious and filling. The first morning, Bill and Gay fed us yummy homemade muffins and pineapple smoothies. The second morning, we had awesome banana macadamia nut pancakes and mango smoothies. In addition, both breakfasts included yogurt, fresh tropical fruit, Kona coffee and hot tea.
Although Gay and Bill did not grow up in the Islands, it is clear that they love Hilo and are already "locals." They made our stay very special and we can't wait to head back for another stay at the Hilo Honu Inn.
