A well run hotel A review of Puerto Palace Hotel
Have just returned from a very enjoyable holiday in the Puerto Palace Hotel. The only disappointment was the weather!!
In stead of warm sunshine which I was hoping for, it was cloudy most of the time and at times heavy rain.(1st week in December 2004.)
The hotel is lovely. It is not high rise having only a maximum of 4 floors. The reception staff including David Carrera, the general manager were all very pleasant; however, I did not find the restaurant staff over friendly but I suppose they were all very busy!
The food was all buffet but of a very good quality and tended to lean towards healthy eating. There was plenty to eat and the soups were always very good.
The bar was keenly priced but the entertainment at night was not really very good; indeed, at times it was awful.
The accomodation was very good and the pool area was excellent.
Due to the weather, I did not quite sample the swimming pools!
The courtesy bus service was good, with the 1st bus down to town at 9.30a.m and the last bus up 5.30p.m. being roughly an hourly service.
This was Monday to Friday with a half day on Saturday and no service on Sundays and bank holidays. However, the taxi fare is usually under 2.50 euros.
The bus journey could last as short as 4 minutes and as long as 10.
In the group of hotels, this hotel is definately the best and, indeed, I would not even contemplate the other two.
Under separate management, there is a large gym and sauna.
It cost 4.50 for hotel guests for a day ticket. I was not impressed with this facility although the gym looked well equipped.
I booked the hotel separately and my transfers were the direct bus service from the airport via Santa Cruz. There is a direct service leaving the airport South at 9.45, 14.00, 20.00 and 23.30 but clearly you have to be lucky with your flight times to be able to catch these buses. It is 100 km. and takes well over an hour and costs 4.80 using a bono ticket or double without.
The service is the 340. If you dont manage the above times, there is another service the 341 to Santa Cruz (5.40 not using Bono) and the 103 to Puerto de la Cruz (3.40euros). These fares are approximate.
For interest, the bono ticket is well worth purchasing as every fare above 20 km attracts a 50% reduction and saves time into the bargain!!
I would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel but I was certainly put off by the weather. Had the weather been as it had been for weeks before my arrival, it would have been wonderful.
