A very nice surprise! A review of Austin's Chuckwagon Lodge and General Store
With a name like Austin's Chuck Wagon one does not really know what to expect. I had read reviews before going and was rather certain it would be a nice place to stay and wasn't disappointed at all. This is an older style 2 level hotel. Rooms are typical of what you would have found in a 15-20 year old hotel, they have been redone since then but that is the layout of the place. The room was very clean, the heating/airconditioning unit was a bit loud but still very typical of a hotel room. The pool and hot tub were very nice. We were also extremely impressed with the deli, diner, and convenience store. The prices and quality were absolutely fantastic. We ordered hot sandwiches from the deli picked up supplies to make subs the next day from the deli, restocked drinks for our cooler and had a bill of $30!! That was for a family of 4, if the quality of all we had bought wouldn't have been so good the price wouldn't matter but the quality was superb! We also did some laundry while we were here. The laundry facility is located behind the general store, about 75 yards from the hotel. We stayed here after a day at Bryce Canyon and we were on our way to Moab, a good 1/2 way point. We did stop at Capitol Reef National Park which is within minutes of the hotel as well.
