A step into the past A review of Aston Waimea Plantation Cottages
My wife and I stayed here (our first time) in October, 2002. Upon our inspection, our reserved one-bedroom, looked a bit run down and depressing inside (although clean), nothing like what the website pictures implied. The front desk was very understanding and gave us a larger unit for the same price. This unit was really nice and comfortable and private (all units are stand-alone buildings). This is a good place for those seeking a more "authentic" experince than the typical hotel and are willing to put up with some imperfection with some of these restored plantation cottages. The long beach is great for walking but was not inviting for swimming due to the murky water-but better beaches are a short drive away. Its a very laid back location good for exploring the south and west side of the island. We would stay here again if we could pick a specific unit rather than reserving it blindly over the phone.
