A Pleasent Stay A review of Salem Inn
I stayed at the inn over the summer (7/2003) and had a lovely time. We stayed in the honeymoon suite at the curwen house, a lovely yellow house about a block away fromt he main house of the inn. The staff seemed friendly though I found it odd that all of them I saw seemed to be either of high school or college age. I didnt have any real problems so I cant comment on their service in that area. The curwen house was lovely, with plenty of private parking behind it and very quiet. We had a very secluded weekend there. The room was big and lovely marble fireplace that apparently in winter months they let you use, and a small tv if we were so inclined, but I hardly know why you'd need a tv if you were staying in salem on vacation...its a lovely place to walk about! Overall I was very pleased with my stay, though there were a couple minor details that i was dissapointed in. First off the period/recreation antiques didnt match at all, they were lovely but it was off-putting how they were all of completely differnent styles and not even all stained the same shade. It also had a distinct feeling of staying at grandma's house, which was a little off putting given it was the '*honeymoon* suite'. I was also dissapointed in the 'canopy' bed...I had expected one of those flowing gauzy types and it was more a four poster bed with a knit piece of fabrice on top. They made up with it with little touches though..providing both coffee and tea, all the supplies in the bathroom (including bath oil's which i completely forgot about for the lovely whirlpool tub) and a hair dryer, and they even an adoreable step for those who had trouble getting into the bed, which was rather high. The breakfast was nice and with quite considerable a selection given its 'continental' moniker, and the stay was extremely pleasent. Salem itself is lovely as well, and I highly reccomend it to any one interested in history. They even let us leave our car in the lot after checkout so we could spend the day in town our last day. I had a blast and would to love to stay again.
