A pleasant stay away from downtown!! A review of John Ascuaga's Nugget Casino Resort
Stayed one week at the Nugget during a business trip. The hotel was very modern and clean, and the staff was friendly overall. My West Tower room (25th floor) was large and comfortable, with numerous tables, and even a recliner. The only downside was the two queen size beds (a single king was not available). The bathroom was well appointed, with hot water in an instant. The six tower elevators were quite smooth and speedy. The buffet was very good, but the service at the Farm House restaurant was extremely slow both times I was there.
The casino games are extensive, with numerous nickel machines to be found. Cocktail service at the machines is spotty at best, with 30 minute waits at times for the first drink to be offered. Overall, the Nugget is much nicer than the Sands, where I had stayed previously. The downtown casinos are plagued by noise from the train whistles. The Nugget is located next to a railway switchyard, and although there were some bangs from the cars joining, I didn't hear a single train whistle my entire stay.
