A Northwest jewel A review of Sun Mountain Lodge
I have visited Sun Mountain Lodge annually since the mid-1990s. It is very much worth the trip from across the country. The scenery is breathtaking, the lodge is luxurious and the staff is friendly and highly competent. The restaurant has great food, tremendous mountain views, a terrific wine cellar and outstanding service. The resort has many miles of hiking, mountain biking and horse trails, some of which are used for cross-country skiing in winter. Play tennis, soak in hot tubs or swim in outdoor pools, all with astounding views of the snow-capped North Cascade mountains and the Methow Valley. Rooms are available in the lodge and in two nearby buildings. Families may prefer the Mount Gardiner building, wth spacious rooms, balconies and a nearby playground. The most luxurious rooms are in the Mount Robinson building, where whirlpool tubs in each room have great mountain views. These rooms also have fireplaces, balconies, refrigerators, wet bars and stereo sound systems. Deer approach the balconies in late evening. The lodge also has a full-service spa and a bar that overlooks the mountains. This place is a real jewel of the Northwest and one of the finest resorts anywhere.
