A little romance in Berkeley A review of DoubleTree by Hilton Berkeley Marina
My husband and I and our two teenage daughters stayed at the Berkeley Marina Radisson for three nights in April 2003 while we were visiting our son, who is a student at Berkeley. This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel, and we enjoy it because having a view of the marina from a third-floor room adds a little romance to our family trip. We enjoy the sound of the "lighthouse" gently beeping at night because it adds a certain atmosphere, although it's possible it might keep some people awake. Get a room on the top floor if you want to sleep at night, because the guests on the lower floor tend to be noiser, coming and going all night. The jacuzzi is nice and relaxing. There's a small pool which is pleasant. The restaurant is good but over-priced. Better to eat in Berkeley...there are plenty of interesting restaurants near the UC Berkeley campus. There is a communication problem among the hotel staff. This caused us to have to change rooms twice on our last stay in April 2003. One problem was that one staff member was supposed to be saving certain rooms for us, and had already blocked them out for us on the computer, but they weren't clean yet, so we were to pick up our room keys in the evening, but when we got back to the hotel, a second staff member had already given these rooms away to someone else. This hotel is the nicest one in the Berkeley area, in our opinion, but they're a little disorganized and a little over-priced. If you don't mind spending the money, we suggest you make sure to check in early and don't budge from the lobby until you have your room keys! We like the Berkeley Marina Radisson better than the other places we have stayed, which include The Rose Garden Inn and The Bancroft Hotel. The Berkeley Marina Radisson is a short drive (about 10 minutes) to the UC Berkeley campus. Beds are comfortable...we had 2 queen-sized beds in one room and a king in the other. Everything was clean.
