A hotel of two halves A review of Hotel Ter Brughe

Just back from the this hotel. I, too, had read these reviews, and thought that as the more recent reviews were more positive, it must have had a makeover. Disappointingly, this wasn't the case. My husband and I had booked an ultra-cheap deal, so were expecting an, er, simpler room. Which we got (experiencing same decor-distress and noise problems as writer of 'This is not a 4 star' below). But, the upper bedrooms are lovely, the downstairs bar is a nice place to relax after a day out on the cobbles, and the cellar breakfast area is atmospheric. Basically, you very much get what you pay for. If you pay for a bargain room, you will get a thin-walled, early '80s style room (with nice view). If you pay normal prices, you will experience the Better Half of the hotel. It's not going ever going to be a "we only paid £30 and got a palatial room" kind of hotel. But if you're out all day, are a heavy sleeper and want to be in centre of town, then it's fine. I wouldn't recommend it though...unless you have the 'normal priced' rooms. Grill the receptionist before making a reservation!
