A hill country get-away A review of Horseshoe Bay Resort Marriott

This resort just opened October 2 and we were there October 10-11; everything was not complete at the new tower, though the amenities we used were completed as they were part of the neighboring resort which is older. Do not be fooled! The photos are deceptive - not all amenities are on-site (at the Marriott tower) but are all within walking distance unless you have tiny children (which we do). Also, by looking at the photos online, we thought the Marriott tower was actually on Lake LBJ - it is NOT! It is a short walk, not bad, but not what we expected. The new tower Marriott is beautiful, with clean lines, and extremely well-appointed in dessert colors. There is a pool bar and a rather swanky restaurant with bar on-site, and we received attentive service. The Marriott took over management of an older resort (or so we were told), all within a well-manicured, protected, master-planned community set amidst rolling hills about 55 minutes west of Austin. This resort has great facilities, mature landscaping, natural-style lakeside pool with wandering paths and caged parrots sprinkled throughout, multiple restaurants, marina, 18-hole putting course, and though we don't play golf, the courses looked amazing!! We were shocked that they don't bill themselves also as a 'tennis camp' or resort, as the tennis courts/facilities are spectacular with upwards of 12 courts (I didn't actually count), multiple surfaces and a winding waterway and shade trees. It was a bit dead when we were there, but it was just opening and probably a bit off-season. I bet summers there will be kicking! Enjoy your trip!
