A Great stay (under less-than-great circumstances) A review of Renaissance Tampa Hotel International Plaza
Trapped in Tampa by the 4th hurricane of our Florida season (thus far), we felt distincty fortunate to be at the Renaissance. The atmosphere was one of a terrific high-end summer camp; kids EVERYWHERE, adults lounging in the lobby playing cards, and terrific food at their multi-star restaurant on the premises. Snacks freely available; good communication from the staff and a very relaxed atmosphere, despite what was happening outside.
Perhaps the fine staff learned from previous errors. The hotel is new and extremely well-appointed. The rooms are a good size; not excessively large but not cramped either. Decor is a funky Florida mix of faux-Mediterranean swirled with Mid-century American Modern. Surprisingly pleasant, and very well thought-out. No cookie-cutter airport hotel feel here! Given that once at the Mall, there's little reason to go elsewhere in Tampa, the Renaissance does a terrific job of making itself invaluable to your stay. Places to 'hang out' in the lobby, around the atrium or in the bar or restaurant make this resort-like. We'll be back again and again!
(hint to parents of kids at any of the colleges in the area -- stay here! Your kids will thank you even if your wallet doesn't!)
