A Good Find A review of Hotel Kampa Garden
We stayed seven nights at The Hotel Kampa Garden, located on Kampa Island - a great location that is a peaceful oasis yet very near everything. It is directly below the Charles Bridge. There are several excellent and reasonable restaurants within 100 yards of the hotel and it is adjacent to a pleasant park. The hotel only opened in September 2005, so the rooms, furnished in Scan modern are like new and of a decent size. Matresses are very firm. Bathrooms have up to date fixtures including towel warmer and hair dryer. Breakfast was a decent buffet including both hot and cold items. Desk staff was helpful. Their English ranged from just OK to quite good. Two things make the hotel unique. One is that the entire hotel is non smoking--there are no rooms where smoking is permitted. For us, that was a plus and a pleasant surprise. The second is that Room 110 is fully handicapped accessable, meeting all ADA requirements including those for the bathroom. It even has a wheelchair lift to get up the front steps. I would ask for a room at the back of the hotel facing the canal. Those rooms have the best view, especially the ones on the fourth floor (there is an elevator) where you can see the castle and one of the bridge towers. Most front rooms only have a view of the back of the Estonian Embassy. There is some construction at the Embassy with resultant noise (tolerable)beginning about 8:30 AM on weekdays. Can't hear it in the canal facing rooms. We paid 2557 crowns (about $100) until November 1 and the price went down to 1557 crowns afterwards making the hotel a real deal. The hotel was recommended by Tomas at TravelCook who also arranged free (because of the lenght of our stay) pickup at the airport. Tomas was helpful in all respects and very responsive to e-mails.
