A gem of a location A review of Narrow Gauge Inn
We stayed at the Narrow Gauge in May 2004 during a road trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco. On arrival we were pleased to hear that you could have private use of the moon pool (hot whirlpool tub). You just had to reserve a half hour slot and it was all ours. After travelling through the Yosemite Park, we reached ths pretty old fashioned style motel, but with class. Lots of features that added to its charm such as the old fire engine garage, the railway signs, even the fact that most rooms had an outside wooden balcony with rocking chairs. Stayed in room 43 and it overlooked the rear wood area, surrounded by lovely trees. Nice and quiet (apart from the beautiful birds), big soft bed - very pleased with everything. We do not feel their website did the Narrow Gauge justice and were very pleasantly surprised. Ate in their restaurant and, although not cheap, the choice was good. Another nice feature (if you like birds) were the large bird feeders outside of the restaurant window area. All sorts of beautiful brightly coloured visitors were eating the seeds. Sadly, we did not see any bears.
