A fine, contemporary business hotel. A review of Ventura Beach Marriott
We stayed at this hotel recently for one night and it served its purpose. This is a big, contemporary business and meeting oriented place. It also caters to large groups and is very pet friendly. There was a dog show in town when we were there are we would swear that every room we passed in the long hallway had a barking dog in it. This doesn't look like the kind of hotel that would welcome pets, but our waiter at dinner told us that if we brought our dog and wanted to eat with him, they would set up a table on the patio and serve us outside (dogs are allowed everywhere except in the restaurant).
The hotel appears to have been recently renovated and looks new inside and out, although the style is more airport than hotel. We couldn't quite put our finger on it, but we didn't feel overly comfortable here. The room was spacious and everything in it was new, but it felt very sterile. Sound insulation from the hallway and the room above was very poor, but we weren't disturbed during the night. High-speed wired internet is provided in the rooms free of charge, but bring your own long cable. A newspaper was delivered outside our door in the morning.
Every staff member we met was extremely polite and helpful. Even the maintenance man said "good evening" when we passed him in the hallway. In that regard, this place couldn't be better. The restaurant has an interesting "Mexican fusion" menu that may not be to everyone's liking, but we enjoyed it and found the prices reasonable. The breakfast menu was very good and there was also a lavish buffet offered.
The hotel is located in a nice area, although there really isn't much to do in the area. It is close to the freeway for easy access, but far enough away that noise isn't an issue. There is a park and beach within walking distance. This is probably the nicest large chain hotel in the area if you are there on business or with a group. Otherwise, skip this town and go up the coast to a more scenic town.
