A few reservations but in general we liked it.... A review of Saddlebrook Resort Tampa
First of all, my 13 year-old daughter loved it. She was in a junior tennis clinic for 4 days and couldn't have been happier. The restaurants, though a bit pricey, were first-rate. I didn't play golf but the 2 courses looked beautiful. Now for my reservations. The pool was very nice but if you didn't get there early in the day it was very hard to find an available lounge chair. I found that people who went golfing during the morning and early afternoon would place towels, books and sandals on lounge chairs, thus in effect reserving them and depriving other people of there use. Management was aware of this practice but seemed resigned to the situation. The tennis program was run in a slightly chaotic fashion. Some clinics started as early as 7:00 in the morning and ended as late as 6:00 , depending on how crowded they were. The junior players weren't always evaluated properly; my daughter wasted two days by being placed in a group with players of lesser ability. She had fun but didn't learn much on those days. There was also a 2 hour break beween the morning and afternoon sessions. It would have been nice if they had a true all-day program including lunch so the parents could take off for the day if they so desired. Having said all this, I would go back to Saddlebrook. The grounds are lovely, the staff is friendly, and though it took a few days my daughter was eventually placed with the right tennis group and got a lot out of it.
