A Dublin Disappointment A review of Kilronan House
Given the glowing reviews posted pre'04, we decided to try this out for our family vacation. Our party of 5 (2couples and a single) booked 3 rooms. Upon arrival, the couples rooms seemed fine, but the single was a dark cell at the top of the first flight of stairs, literally no room for an occupant plus a bag...let alone for a 70 year old widow. We were told by the staff-person present that no other rooms were available, so we asked for a recommendation of a place to go to find a more suitable room.
We have yet to find that address...after asking for clarification 3 times. Luckily we found another hotel on our own. ..that was problem#1 and an omen of things to come.
Over the course of our stay:
1. A place specifically recommended for Easter Dinner by a staff member was closed, though I had asked them to check weeks in advance.
2. A promised space to safely park our rental car had been over-promised to other guests, forcing us to park on the street ($$$).
3. Though breakfasts are generous, the staff could not keep up with the volume of guests. If you need to be somewhere in less than an hour, forget it.
4. The staff over the Easter weekend was generally pleasant but not at all helpful in recommending restaurants or sites to see.
Kilronan is not worth the hype...go to Longfields a few blocks down.
