A disappointment A review of The Ritz Carlton Coconut Grove, Miami

I just returned from 2 nights at this hotel. I must say, given the Trip Advisor's only other review I may have been set up for a fall. (It would be hard to imagine a better review). The place is physically attractive, especially the lobby with its spectacular waterfall. The pool area is large and the gym well kept and well equipped. The rooms are very standard Ritz Carlton which of course is not ever bad but nothing special--soulless. The housekeeping service really colored my view of the place. My room went un made up until well after one p.m.

And amazingly, my almost empty bottles of shower gel and shampoo weren't replaced! At the rates they're charging! My second problem with this hotel is that it's deader than a doornail. Coconut Grove is a charming place you can 'do' in about a half hour. If you want to be far from the madding crowd, it's an ideal location. But the hotel itself is dead. There's nobody in the bar at any point. And one other picky comment. I was asked if I wanted coffee while I waited for my fellow travellers in the lobby. I was presented with a bill for $5.00 for a cup of good old American coffee. How's that for crust? Or is it ingenuity.
