A Different Drummer A review of The Sainte Claire
After pre-paying for a room, I saw some terrible reviews of the St.
Claire, so I had come concerns about our stay. We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is "historic," which often merely means "old." Here it meant charming. If you're looking for chrome and glass, this is not your hotel. The room reminded me of a European hotel. It was very large with two double beds, a table and chairs, a desk, bureau, walk-in closet with louvered doors, and sufficent room to easily accommodate a rollaway bed. The feather beds were nice and fluffy. The bathroom had a lovely small ceiling mural that reflected in the mirror over the basin.
The hotel's sitting room off the foyer had a clubby feel to it. There were some glitches: a loose electrical outlet, a bathroom faucet that needed adjusting, a chipped bathroom door, poor lighting for putting on makeup in the bathroom. More attention to detail could make this place great. We had a very nice stay here, and would stay again.
