A crowned jewel in Prague A review of Golden Well (U Zlate Studne)
My husband and I were looking for a smallish hotel with local charm which also provided updated amenities. Additionally we wanted to be within walking distance of the sights. U Zlate Studne seemed to fit the bill from all the internet research I was able to uncover, particularly from the previous reviewers. All of our wishes were satisfied and so much more. The hotel is tucked down a tiny alleyway and is not viewable until you happen upon its front door. Once you see the welcoming entrance you know you have come upon a special place. From the moment we were greeted at the front desk we knew we were in good hands. The staff was cheerful and helpful. No request was too much for them to handle. I would highly recommend the junior suite which offers the most magnificent view of the entire city. The rooms are very nicely appointed and scrupulously clean. The bathrooms are ultra modern and even offer whirlpool baths which are quite enjoyable after a long day of walking around the cobblestone streets. Breakfasts are included in the price and the buffet is more than admirable. Eggs may also be cooked to order. There is a beautiful terrace restaurant for dinner that is expensive but quite good. We did actually have better meals elsewhere, but the view is incomparable. We particularly loved the location of this hotel. It is literally steps away from Prague Castle. The Mala Strana neighborhood is peaceful and lovely. Every place you want to visit in Prague is within walking distance, including the Charles Bridge, the Jewish Ghetto, Old Town and New Town. My best advise in this beautiful old city is to enhance your exprience with a hotel like this. DO NOT stay at an American chain! You will be missing so much of what makes this city what it is all about.
