A complete ordeal A review of The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay
My husband and I spent a night last week at the Ritz, anticipating a quick anniversary get away. The problems were many. Our ocean vew room, wasn't (we were told it will soon be "recatagorized"), there was a terrible, choking smell of woodsmoke in the hallway which made it's way into our room(evidently only on the 4th floor). The front desk told us they get constant complaints about. We were told, repeatedly, it was coming from the room fireplaces (gas). Managment the next day confirmed it was a probem with the draw from the main fireplaces in the lounges and that they had yet to solve the problem. We slep t with towels stuffed under the door and the windows wide open until the outdoor fire pit extinguished and sent plumes of smoke into our room through the window! I had confirmed an egg crate foam pad on the bed, due to a back injury- they had none leaving me with another reason for a sleepless night. Around 11PM we heard heavy furniture being moved above us and were told they were painting the lounge overhead and would move the furniture back early in the morning. And last but not least, we were awakened by a phone call at 7AM because we had the "DO NOT DISTURB" sign on the door to let us know they were shoving the whole Wall Street Journal (unrequested) under our door- despite the towels. We refused managments offer for a complimentry return stay.
