Saturday began with poached egg on toast at Duo Cafe. The only other customer was a middle aged Canadian man who told me he lived in Cambodia but was spending a couple of months in southern Thailand. When I tried to discover what he did in Cambodia he became rather evasive and muttered ...

On Saturday we spent the day at White Sand Beach. It was a gloriously sunny day again and we arranged for a fairly early start in the hope of being able to beat the Germans to the sun loungers by the Boatyard restaurant. We were in luck and managed to get the last two in a prime position under the coconut palms. The beach was as beautiful as ever. In my opinion it’s the loveliest in Khao Lak and I believe Phil liked it too. We had ...

... in front of us were a young lovey dovey German couple who seemed more interested in each other than in the vagaries of the sea and we decided that they definitely needed a drenching. Minutes later our prayers were answered and we had difficulty containing our mirth as the girl wrung sea water out of her long blonde hair whilst the boy used his napkin to dab ineffectually at his soaking wet shirt. It was a most amusing way to end Nicky’s week’s holiday in Khao Lak.
