A Beautiful Day

... Jeff found the most beautiful shell - just wish we had had our camera with us to take a photo of it. It was so shiny and covered in spots and was the size of Lucy's hand. (I must look up the name of this at a later date....)

Once we got out of the water the children were so excited, talking about what they had seen - the snorkel gear was a definate great buy :-)

Jeff and the children then ...

A Chilly Day!

We woke up to an overcast sky and rain!! Not what you would expect in Fiji, particularly after studying the Lonely Planet on the plane! After laying in bed pretending to be asleep and hoping that the rain would pass for about an hour we gave up and went for breakfast.

Wow! What a breakfast, the best one of the whole trip, everything you could imagine and for FREE! After spending quite sometime in ...

Time Travellers - part 2

After leaving Apia, it was a 1:50 hour flight to Nadi, but on arrival instead of being 12 hours behind and it being Friday we were 12 hours in front and it was Saturday!!! We didn't know whether we were coming or going!

Once in the airport and through the huge queue for customs and the baggage scanning for illegal imports we were through into the arrivals lounge and no transport from the hotel.........slight ...

... the evening entertainment. Which was watching greased up Fiji guys dancing and making funny noises - i soon found out that this was the norm! Earlyish night for me as it was a 6am start so i could get going on my stunning Fiji island hop!

Picked up our bus to the port which was the oldest bus ever and they had over booked it by about 50 people, in England if your over booked normally you would have to wait but in Fiji you just stand or sit where ever you ...

The Camper Crash and other exciting adventures.

... has a reputation of being the best hostel in Fiji, and did not disappoint. The place looks more like a 5* resort than a backpackers accomodation! However me and Rob being nearly the only people here, spent much of the day abusing the free internet access and working on our tans. We did take time out of this busy schedule to go on a jet ski towed adventure ride which was a lot of fun, and not too expensive at about £6.
This brings us to now, where we have one ...

Bula!

Bula! So I finally made it to Fiji! It was so so sad leaving the Cooks as I had such an amazing time there. So amazing in fact that I decided I needed one last night out so went out until 2am then straight to the airport for a 3.30am flight - not the cleverest idea I've ever had as I don't think I've ever felt rougher on a flight! Got to Auckland to find the transit gates closed but then got led through some ...

Out of air sign at 5 meter depth ...

... say: 'peddle me to the boat.' I jump in front of everybody's nose and grab the ladder. The sea is pretty wild. The captain shouts: 'put air in your BCD.' Sigh ... . Oh, well, we made it safely again. Of course, it is also my fault: I push the limits. BUT: I had 500 PSI left when surfacing, which is enough for an experienced diver to do the safety stop AND surface. Equipment malfunction and scary. See you soon, in New Zealand, this time!

A little bit (a lot of bit) of paradise!!!

... Also, the mosquitoes seem to love my feet and ankles. I have 5 bites above my knees and 25 (at last count) below. It is ridiculous. In closing...We'll definitely miss this place, the good food, the great people, the green / blue clear lagoon, the free homemade cookies/Fiji bottled water. We'll cherish our time here...and hopefully, in the near future, return...even despite all the mosquito bites and nature's creatures. Love and Hugs! Cathy & Brandt

Dolphins off the bow!

... came as a shock the next day when I carried out my routine scan of the horizon and saw the shape of another vessel. My second ocean crossing was carried out under sail, with a good wind to carry us. With such a steady breeze we could set up the wind vane, which used the wind to set the rudder. Jim and I basked in the sun, read and kept an eye on the point where the sea and sky meet, but we didn't see anything else until we reached smoggy Suva and I had to contemplate a return to reality

Viimane päev Fijil - unustamatu paadimatk

... oli vägev - kalad lendasid vähemalt 10 meetrit üsna madalal vee kohal ja üsna kiire tempoga. Laineteni jõudes kohtasime nii mõndagi paati koos suuri laineid ootavate hulljulgete surfaritega. Ristokas otsustas ka kogemuse võrra rikkamaks saada ning asus vapralt lauaga lainete poole ujuma. Järgnes pikalt hoovõttu ning seejärel üks paras maraton lainetega võideldes - järjest uued ja uued lained tulevad peale ja püüavad sind vee ...
