A curry that tasted like piss!
We stayed at Xanadu 2008 for 3 nights in Kanchanaburi. It was beautifully located on the river with a pool and bar. We had a swim and got chatting and was taken to a great pizzeria thanks to Sarah and Al. On our second day we went to Erawan National Park to swim in the multi-level waterfall. At first the fish that waited at the edge of the pool …
Jungle Fever
Since the demise of the British Empire, those with colonial aspirations have had to find a stealth manner of empire building. The answer has been to turn away from the traditional method of military occupation and installed hierachy and to rely on one's cuisine and culture to stamp its mark in far away places. In Pattaya this has manifested itself …

... some people we met at a bar, forgetting in his happy state what the next day held.... a 2 hour trip on a tiny bus with no air con back to Bangkok before a 12 hour train ride to Chang Mai which ended up taking more like 18 hours. I think at points he was feeling rather poorly!

Floating market, River Kwai and Tiger Temple
... Not much to say about this as we have been to 3 on our travels and like the other 2 it's not much of a floating market. We did have fun bartering here tho a lady wanted 1200 for a pair of shoes and Paul got them for 200 ...
Tiger time!
Today, we hired a car and driver from the hotel, and went to see some of the sites a bit further outside Bangkok. Our first stop was at the JEATH museum, which is a museum about the prisoner of war camps in Thailand in WWII, and was as a tribute to the bridge they built linking Burma and Thailand. Then we went onto the memorial fields, where there were over 6000 memorial stones for POWs who died during their time in the camp. It was a beautiful garden, well maintained, ...

Beautiful location on the bank of the River Kwai and fantastic food.
The resort is not cheap but is a fantastic option for people looking to relax, and especiall for fishermen. Also offers good tour options of the surrounding area including waterfalls, Tiger Temple and the River Kwai.
The journey into central Kanchanburi costs four pounds per person per time and should be factored into the consideration with this venue.
