Does anyone get seasick?

A travel blog entry by pmcooper

The most highly anticipated excursion was today-we chartered a private fishing boat for a deep sea fishing excursion. Captain Tom and his first mate Johnson have been professionally crewing charters for visitors to Saint Lucia for over 15 years , and both were great fun. After the obligatory instructions on life vests and on board potty, Toms' …

SNUBA with an "N"

I wasn't quite sure how I'd feel about getting back into the water after the previous days rolling excitement deep sea fishing, but the plan was to go SNUBA diving - kind of that perfect spot between snorkeling and SCUBA diving...not completely self-contained like SCUBA, SNUBA allows you to utilize a regulator to go deeper than snorkeling but …

St Lucia And Her Pitons Charm Us.

St. Lucia - what a gem of a Caribbean Island.

From the first glimpse from our cruise ship window she had us in love with her beauty. Ports for cruise ships are generally the ugly side of town, but Castries was the exception being a pretty little inlet with sail boat moorings in our view and surrounding lush tropical hillsides with colourful houses poking out of the slopes. St Lucia is famous and has a UNESCO World Heritage listing for its ...

Exploring the Caribbean the easy way -on a cruise

... 14 nights if we’re not compatible. The other problem we’ve found with fixed seating is that you may be on a table for 8 or 10 people, but quite often half those people eat at various other places, and never attend the restaurant.

The 4-course dinner is quite good, not quite the excellent restaurant quality we remember from our Dawn Princess cruise in the South Pacific (we’re only paying two-thirds the price of that cruise so ...

Soaring through the Canopy

... the best ride ever! You get on a special car and ride up to the top of a mountain (not one of the two Pitons) and go up the mountain, then turn around and come back down. You are going through the understory on the way up and through the canopy on the way down. You even briefly go above the canopy on the way down. The forest is fascinating. There are dozens of ...

    Windjammer Landing - Just Beautiful

    from anonymous

My husband and I stayed at the Windjammer Landing Resort this past February/March 2003. I must tell you that the Windjammer was just beautiful. The layout of the resort was incredible. The resort was layered on a hill overlooking the Caribbean and the view was beautiful. We stayed in a one bedroom which great. But we did get to see some one, two and three bedroom villas, some with plunge pools and some without. I must tell you they were absolutely beautiful! The Windjammer is for both couples and families. My husband and I do not have kids but having children around were not a problem. As a matter of fact the resort offers Nanny service and we noticed that at least 90% of the couples with kids used this service. I would recommend this resort to anyone, single, couples and families. St. Lucia is quite beautiful. The staff at the Windjammer were some of the most pleasant, kind and consider people I have ever met. When it is time for you to leave the resort and St. Lucia you feel like you are leaving many friends behind.

    Great holiday

    from anonymous

My fiance and I stayed at the Windjammer for a week in February 2003. We found it excellent, there were flower petals on the bed when we arrived, the food was very good, the beach lovely and not too crowded, the staff very friendly and the day trip by catamaran to the Pitons and the tropical gardens would have been great if it hadn't rained all day! I'd say it's not intimate enough for a honeymoon, and from what I saw of the wedding facilities, I would not want to get married in that close proximity to the other hotel guests on the beach, but it is an excellent holiday destination.

    Disappointing honeymoon destination

    from anonymous

We just returned from our honeymoon to St Lucia, and stayed at 3 different resorts: Rendezvous, TiKaye and Windjammer. I would highly recommend Rendezvous and TiKaye as part of anyone's honeymoon. The resorts are just terrific and offer a great price (especially TiKaye). However, for the non-inclusive Windjammer we paid about as much as for the all-inclusive Rendezvous, but we got offered so much more at Rendezvous. Windjammer was crowded, with very bad service, unfriendly staff, no nightly entertainment, expensive food, a crowded beach, and lots of small things that went wrong. The service was just really bad compared to the wonderful service we received at TiKaye and Rendezvous. For honeymooning couples, please pick Rendezvous and TiKaye: you will have the best time and a great vacation. Windjammer was the last resort on our trip, and we regret we had to go there and waste our money.

    Perfection of Paradise

    from anonymous

St.Lucia is the most magnificent island in the Caribbean I have visited. It is beautiful and has a secret of perfection around every corner. The pitons stand tall and gaze through the lush greenery. The sun beams down onto the white sandy beaches. Perfect. I have visited Windjammer for the past 5 yrs and there are not words to some up this enjoyable and beautiful place. Thevillas are beautiful with magnificent views, staff are friendly and beautiful restaurants. What more could you ask for.

    Not for me...

    from Caribbeanlover

After traveling to many all-inclusive resorts..I wanted to try something different...well, different it was...BORING!!!!! Very beautiful property and buildings, but nothing going on EVER!!!If you love the beach...forget it!! Too small to even take a walk! We went in February, water freezing at the beachand in the pool. Food, O.K., Drinks, O.K., Entertainment? Non-existent!! But, St.Lucia is avery beautiful island and we enjoyed taking some day trips..If I ever decided to go back, I'd definitely choose a livlier place, maybe one of the three Sandals...

    Wonderful family vacation

    from anonymous

Our family had a wonderful vacation at WindjammerLanding over New Years of 2003. The view from the villa wasmagnificent! The service was excellent and the staff verypleasant. We took advantage of all of the ammenties from thesnorkel trips to the managers cocktail parties poolside and werenever disappointed. Advice I would give is to take the helicopter ride to/from the airport if flying out of Hewanorradue to the conditions of the island roads. We can't wait to return to Windjammer Landing!

    Windjammer-Not Up to Expectations

    from anonymous

After wanting to go to St Lucia for the past 10 years, we were disappointed with our stay at Windjammer Landing property. The villa was a one bedroom (without plunge pool) villa. The room had a kitchenette, sitting area and bedroom and bathroom (the bedroom was only airconditioned). The accomodation was poor, literally...no wall hangings and the furniture was cloth covered pillows that smelled of mildew, and the rooms needed some deep cleaning. Housekeeping was very poor, almost daily we had to call for towels and shampoo/soap, and ask to clean the veranda, clean water glasses etc. We took the food/beverage plan and found that we had to work hard to even come close to the per person daily charge. The food was relatively poor, from breakfast through dinner. The property attempted to charge us for drinks when we requested name brands (had those charges removed as the hotels Web Site and US stateside reps confirmation didn't have that indicated). In addition, restaurants had added supplemental charges for items on their menus (even basics like shrimp appetizers) and their leading restaurant "Dragonfly" indicated their entire menu was a supplement (the hotel removed that clause later). Papa Don's italian was were we dined for dinner, since they were the best on property. It appears in general that Windjammers management team lacks quality control of their services and staff. We cannot believe this hotel was a CondeNaste GOLD listing. Staff needs training. Poor overall experience. There are many choices for travel destinations, and this is a property we would not go back to or recommend.

    Wedding Nightmare

    from anonymous

Nightmare is an understatement. My husband and I traveled along with 30 family members to the Windjammer Landing Beach Resort to be wed.

Looking back it was all quite comical but at the time enough to call off the wedding. I planned our wedding with the so-called "wedding coordinator" for 12 months. When we got there our rooms were not booked for all of our guests. The hotel sent my custom made wedding dress to a local dry cleaner to be steamed before the wedding. When it finally returned 2 days late it was missing buttons, had been dry-cleaned, shrunk and if that wasn't enough it was discolored.

We paid extra money for white beach chairs at the ceremony, we got dark brown chairs. We paid hundreds of $$ for a cake that no one would eat it was so hard.

But the true icing on the cake was when the photographer mailed our wedding photos to a different couple and lost them.

Aside from beautiful weather (which the hotel couldn't screw up) the wedding was awful.

    A tropical paradise

    from anonymous

We went to Windjammer landing and had an amazing time. Our villa was almost entirly open to the elements, with exception of our bedroom, which had A/C. And we had our own little pool. The resort is situated on a steep hill. Do not worry, they have a "taxi service" of sorts. Golf carts with cheerfull drivers. The food was quite nice, and the water amazing. If you go, and the sunset cruise is available, do take it. We did, and it was worth it. A catamaran, reggae music, hors d'oeuvres, and mixed tropical drinks. Everyone danced from 25 to 75! The resort has 4 eaterys, and a beach bar. And they also have live music throughout the week. A great place to go, and you don't even need to leave.
