Really lovely place to stay

Beautiful Environment to stay in. Arrived late and was difficult to navigate into Caravan space in total darkness. Can get really cold overnight in July so take plenty of layers. Nice Hot showers helped. Fires allowed in July. Pick up bags of wood at Visitor centre for a reasonable price.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in cabin #53 The Heysen. Clean and well appointed although no dishwashing liquid was supplied. The bistro served basic food, fish was overcooked as were the vegetables. Don't arrive after 9:00 am for breakfast as the food runs out and does not necessarily get replaced. The eggs and mushrooms were top notch, it was a bit weird trying to get a serving of baked beans with tongs and there should be tongs provided for the bread for hygiene. Staff were awesome especially Sam. The walking trails are beautiful and worth the trek through the bush. We would return, it was a great stay.

Wilpena Pound resort is set in a beautiful part of the Flinders Ranges, it has many walks and 4WD Tour activities available for travelers. there are hotel rooms and powered and unpowered sites for the campers and caravaners. while the resort is quite old it is in great shape thanks to a great team of individuals, both permanent and itinerant. its constantly maintained and upgraded as it requires it to be so. Recommend a visit if you have not done so already. Strongly suggest you book ahead in peak season.

Woke to a pretty awesome site this morning with the sun shining on the walls of the Flinders ranges quite spectacularly. We didn't have to rush today, so we had a leisurely start. Up to the office to sort out our fees and get a map of the area. I knew there was a pretty spectacular drive to Brachna Gorge and it certainly didn’t disappoint. We …

We started very early in Mildura this morning where we packed up for one of our biggest days of travel. First we took the kids to Lock 11 on the Murray. This is a part of the Murray River where boats enter and the lock either fills or drains so that craft can navigate the different levels safely. We then went over the border (briefly) by crossing …

After a brief stop on the way out of Renmark to buy roadside oranges and mandarins (beautiful), it was on to our next stop, Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges. Along the many kms we travelled we came across many ruins of old buildings and houses made of stone. Some of them are listed along the way as historic ruin sites. The wildlife were also …

After a beautiful scenic drive through Quorn and Hawker we arrived in the beautiful setting of Wilpena Pound. The campsite here is as I remember it, very picturesque in a bush like setting with the majestic ranges as a backdrop. Everything is tinged with greenness after the recent rains here. Just perfect. We have three nights here and two full …

Summer in Australia is a time where many people fled to the cool of the coast, where the ocean breeze is a relief and the warm sea waters are pleasant. But this summer we were opting for something different. We were headed for the Australian outback. So to begin 2014, we were met by the flies in the Flinders Ranges.

For days now, we …
