      ... It was really run to bike ahead of our ship, then stop to wave to our parents as they passed and take photos. The ride really gave us a great perspective of the small towns along the river, and the beautiful scenery which surrounds them. It was a great experience, and especially fun to ride into the city of Passau, crossing the river, and then along the large dam/hydroelectric plant that spans the river along the western side of the city. ...

      ... have to keep all those Czechs happy and make sure they don’t go thirsty! Pilsner Urquell has been brewed at this same brewery since 1842, and they say the Pilsen lager inspired more than 2/3 of the world’s pilsner labelled beers. Thank you Pilsen! The best part of the tour was at the end where we tasted unfiltered and non-pasteurised Pilsner Urquell beer tapped straight from the oak lager barrels. Ahhhhhhhh!

      41 kms AM - Wow, what a morning! The exhibits in the Gäubodenmuseum in Straubing were extraordinary; the Roman objects found buried there in 1950 are amazing! Metal breastplates, knee guards, shin guards, helmets, swords, silver coins etc in perfect condition. The Romans settled here in 70 AD and called the place "Sor-viodurum". PM - The Danube trail is well signposted, we have only lost it several times, mostly entering or leaving ...

      ... personalities & dignitaries and is a huge building on a hilltop. Saw several large freight barges on the Danube and another cruise ship this morning. Lots of crops in very good condition along the Danube here; wheat, barley, oats (a little), canola, rye, maize and a fodder crop that looked like silver beet. PM - Had lunch in Frenkofen; a meal of whole grain rolls, eggs, nutella and bananas that we borrowed ...
