... but is more of an industrial shipbuilding center than a tourist town overall. I think I covered everything of interest in town and had lunch there in less than three hours.

Last but not least is Porec, pronounced in Serbo-Croatian more like "poor wretch". Porec is Istria’s biggest tourist town, surrounded by resort hotels and still busy in early October with crowds of Italians and German speakers. Porec’s old town is also located on a peninsula, but ...

At 9 am sharp, our guide, Goran arrived and we set off for a tour of Rovinj where the signs are all in both Croatian and Italian because of the dominance of the Venician Empire on this part of Croatia. It felt ...

We met her son who speaks six languages and he gave us great advice about seeing the area. We then ran into him in ...

... bought wine which we intended to do anyway so we felt like we hit the jackpot. Next we had lunch at Rino's Konoba in the town of Momjam. It is a family run-organic-farm to table operation. I fell in love with a hand carved wooden bread holder. I asked if they sold them but no, nor would I find them in any store. At the end of lunch I asked again if they would consider selling me the one we had. Our waitress checked ...

We are now in the Istra region of Croatia. You can see and hear the Italian influence in this area. We are touring the old city that was originally on a island. The space between the island and the mainland was filled in to connect the island. The former island is a very steep hill with the Baroque church at the top. The church is the fourth one in this location and ...
