... as there were some temptations! Most of the shops sold locally-made things and there were seafood restaurants everywhere, it felt very authentic and chilled. I think every town we stumbled upon had this feel, reminded me a little of Cornwall although on a much grander scale. After leaving Morro Bay we drove up the coast towards our next destination - San Simeon. We stopped en route as I'd spotted Bristol Street and Plymouth Street and couldn't pass the opportunity for a photo! ...

... brought us to the top of a cliff side overlooking a white beach and translucent blue water with a waterfall falling eighty feet off the cliffside onto the sand. This is the classic Big Sur postcard shot where the amazing beach and sand are punctuated on one side by the majestic Pacific and on the other side by rising mountains. He even created a rose to suit Dave's discernable palate. Late that evening D 's parents Hal and Sharon arrived at the homestead from a camping trip at lake Tahoe and the following morning was ...

... after an hour of blowing and suffering from only minor smoke related injuries we managed to get a small fire started.

As we used a flamed tortilla chip to light the stove gas, we then realised that the stove was also having issues. So I had to keep the fire going for a while longer whilst Ben worked hard to get the stove started. eventually we were successful and food was in the pan being warmed through. After all this was done, we ...

... t too bad (I was wet, but not soaked, and I spared the camera). The crabs are a riot, but the starfish are my favorite. I probably spent two hours climbing around on the rocks looking for tidal pools. It was wonderful.

Another fun day! It’s funny to think how different the ocean experience is on the west coast compared to the east. I didn’t see one “beach” that would have been comfortable to lay out on a ...
