Our last day in Big Sur then on to San Francisco. Walked many woods yesterday and saw one of the only fairy ring of Redwood trees.
New redwood trees sprout up around old redwood trees, especially when the old tree has been injured or burned in a fire, and these circular groves are called fairy rings. We have one very close to our room at Ventana - new age types think they have mystical powers.
First full day at Ventana Inn. Wonderful grounds. 1200 feet above the ocean with a 50ole view of the California coast line. Going on a nature walk in about 30 minutes.
... hot, I decided to dive into the very chilly Pacific and braved the incoming shrinkage head on.
The campsite host had told us of a hike nearby at Limekiln National Park. We are so thankful to follow these recommendations as we found ourselves wandering along a creekside through the glistening redwood forest as the sunlight peered through the branches of the giants. ... are just lacking sunshine to brighten it up today. We stop for lunch in the van and the three youngest Kemptons have a nap in the van, whilst Rich heads to the pub for a beer. It's was a real pub with ales on tap and not a lager in sight! Excellent find.
Lovely campsite for the night, and its not many times we have said that! Beautiful forested site right by the river, huge pitch and the sun is out. Playtime this ...
