Historical Traveler Reviews of Uma Ubud

Highly recommended for short break

from A TripAdvisor Member
Visited in Nov 2005. Secluded and stylish with excellent sevice but without having to pay exorbitant luxury spa rates. Highlights included creative breakfast menu, quality of spa treatments, and hospitality of guide on local walk. Only minor complaint is our neighbouring chalet's open shower area was very close to our own so it was too easy to overhear conversations.

Amazing - from start ot finish

from KL_Sue
Small boutique hotel located on outskirts of Ubud set in lush gardens. Our stay was amazing from start to finish. The staff are incredibly helpful, knowledgable and welcoming. Rooms are wonderful - modern, and very funky but still very comfortable. The food is inventive and very tasty. The pool/bar is beautifully designed. Free daily yoga classes and morning walks around local villages. Overall a fantastic, creative, relaxing, unique and intimate place to enjoy Ubud. It represents amazing value compared to Aman and Four Seasons resorts in Ubud for similar levels of service and novel design.

Terrific Boutique Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Our stay at Uma Ubud was unbelievable. This boutique hotel has everything you can ask for and more. First class spa (we had several massages there during our stay -- it was our honeymoon), amazing restaurant (great breakfast and dinners) and outgoing professional staff. Now, let me get to the room. We booked the Shambhala Suite. This villa sat on the edge of the gorge overlooking the river valley below. Enclosed in the villa walls was our own private infinity plunge pool which edges our to the cliff below and a wonderfully romantic outdoor shower and bath. The Uma is a romantic setting and all of the little touches make it a special place to stay. Additionally, the Uma is within walking distance to the best restaurant in all of Bali (the Mozaic) and the hotel provides shuttle service into Ubud center for walking around/shopping. The Uma, matches up with the other five star hotels we stayed at during our trip and, when factoring in the price, probably beats the other hotels. I cannot say enough about the Uma.

Very good choice in Ubud

from Commerce90
My wife and I stayed for 3 nights in the Uma in September. Comments are based on a comparison of 7 other hotels we have stayed in Bali. Overall, very positive experience. Excellent food (5-star), well designed grounds, excellent service and a very reasonable price vs. other high-end Bali hotels. Our only complaint was the sparsely decorated rooms. All white, with no inclination that one is actually staying in Bali. Very modern (which we liked), but could use some local touches. We stayed in a pool villa which had a great view of the Ayung river valley and would highly recommend. Location is a short drive into Ubud town and about 5mins walk to the Neka Museum (key museum in Bali).

Totally awed

What a wonderful place. We loved it, all throughout.

Oasis of calm at uma

from MJB2
Just come back from a few days stay at Uma and I can't praise it enough. Food excellent, rooms beautiful and staff helpful and friendly. Complimentary walks by hotel guide as well free shuttle to the heart of Ubud. Can highly recommend Arys Warung restaurant in the middle of Ubud food excellent food (try taster menu) and people watching.

Wish I stayed longer.

Stylish Zen hotel

A relaxing and beautiful gem. Big rooms (mine with private garden) so nicely designed you'll grab some pictures with your camera. Awesome staff and management. Healthy food, great spa and swimming pool. What else do we need?... Maybe a luxurious dinner at the nearby "Mosaic", one of the best Restaurants in the world. Will return.

I shouldn't be telling you this..

I know that I will one day regret telling you this, because I want the Uma all to myself!

You cannot be disappointed at this retreat. Professionally executed, discreet and friendly staff, idyllic settling, beautiful food, a spa to die for, spacious rooms and fabulous cocktails.

This is a hotel to relax and appreciate the surrounding.

DO NOT come here if you want to 'large it up' party time, this is not your scene.

COME HERE to experience class, elegance and sophistication.

Uma Ubud is a real gem- an absolute must

from LondonTrav
We stayed at the Uma Ubud in August for 5 nights- 4 nights in a standard room and 1 night in the Coco Shambala Suite.

This place is simply beautiful! It is hard to fault anything about it. At US$200 +++ per night, it compares to any high end (but not Four Seasons) price in Bali and it is simply ina different league.

Overall we were disappointed with bali (we struggled to find a beach comparable to standard Mediterannean standards) yet our staty at Uma Ubud meant we had something special there to think highly of the place and to have made the long trip worthwhile.

The rooms are beautiful- the standard one is sufficiently beautiful- with a lovely bed and furniture in minimal tones and a luscious bathroom with yummy soaps etc (you would be surprised- this standard staple of high end hotels was not yummy insheraton, grand hyatt etc where we also stayed) and a lovely verandah with view.

Every detail was taken care of- dvds for rent; special mosquito repellents etc etc- again you may think standard for 200 US$ a night but not so in bali and also nowhere else so beautifully laid out.

The service was personal and super friendly but discrete. The food at the restaurants was fantastic - we never wanted to eat out! And its small and intimate as a whole so you really feel that you are going to a warmer place than a hotel

The hotel arranges daily free walks in the mornings and daily yoga free classes in the afternoon!

Probably the only thing Id recommend is book your excursions outside as they do charge a high premium for booking there with their guides

I cannot recommend Uma Ubud enough- it really is the calmest , best place Ive stayed in

Make sure you go!

Wonderful experience

from lud
i've just come back from bali where i stayed 12 days, in uma ubud and oberoî. I didn't know what to expect from uma as I had read almost no review and the hotel website pictures giving not a clear overview of the place.

It was a wonderful experience of calm, luxury, high quality and friendly service. The food is really great (being french I'm rather used to good food) and not so expensive (though more than in most ubud excellent restaurants).

everything is clean and zen : the lobby, the bar, the grounds, the rooms..

The pool is beautiful and large

the spa is good place to to go once not only because its gorgeous but but the massages are just great!

The pool suite "40" where i stayed was everything I dreamed of : spacious, privacy, pool, large veranda, beautiful bathroom, large dinning room, just the birds to wake you during your nap by the pool...

People there are really all you expect from bali always looking for your comfort and willing to help you.

and if you stay there, just cross the road and go for a diner at mozaic...

I stayed 4 years ago in four seasons sayan where i really enjoyed my stay, but i'll return to uma where you feel you're more important than the hotel (which is not always the truth in FS sayan where the true star seems to be the actually spectacular resort)
