After 24 hours of travel we finally arrive in Bali and the trip was so worth it. En route from the airport we stopped off at a temple. Each family in Bali have a temple which they maintain on a daily basis. We visited with an older gentlemen at the temple who was in charge of its upkeep for his family. He informed us that his temple was one of …
Our welcome on Bali was warm. The tour guide spoke Dutch and wanted us to learn as much about Bali and its rich traditions on the road from Denpasar Airport to Ubud which is at the heart of rice farming on Bali and is famous for its artist colony - even Western European painters have found a home in these magical surroundings. Ubud Hanging gardens …
... t eaten since breakfast at 3am! Another celebration - putting on shorts and tank tops to go out in PUBLIC (taboo on Java!) After lunch we took a dip in our private pool, showered and had a nap since we had been up since 3am! After a quick nap, we all got ready and headed out for dinner and drinks. We went to a restaurant called Bali Buda, which was about a 20 min walk from our villa. We were all dying to have some healthy ...
... of the dancing. The performance tonight was a woman's orchestra, with a series of dances. Most of the dances seemed quite tradition, but one, performed by a few young girls, mimicked the movement of bunnies, and had been choreographed recently by someone from the ASTI arts institute. When the show was over, we were again retrieved by the van from the hotel and went home and to ...
After a late Saturday night at the blues bar, what are three friends to do during a torrential downpour? Go shopping, of course!
With fashonista Annie as an inspiration, we grabbed a cab at Ibu's Warung at the end of our path, and headed up to Biasa and Aster, two boutiques. All of Biasa's avant garde clothes are Bali designed and constructed, with exquisite attention to detail. For two hours, ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Ubud Hanging Gardens by Orient-Express Payangan
My partner and I travel a lot and have already been to many different countries, where we always stayed at very good hotels. But our holidays at Ubud Hanging Gardens were an experience like never before. This place is truly paradise! Just everything was perfect: spectacular view, very beautiful Villas, excellent food, nice Spa as well as great people working there. I strictly have to disagree with the comments mentioned in the review from below, they are not fair. The Villas at Ubud Hanging Gardens are unique and express a very warm and cosy atmosphere. We enjoyed it to watch TV while lying in our huge bed, the mosquito net did not disturb at all, we just opened it (which was not that difficult!) to see the television. And: I don't find it very respectful to say that the receptionist who follows the clients to their rooms just to be helpful by explaining everything in the room to be somebody "hanging around like a bad smell". However, we had a wonderful time at this extraordinary place and can only recommend it. It's "heaven on earth", we will definitely come back.
LOVED the spectacular view and the infinity pools, especially the main one.
We booked two nights in Ubud as part of a circuit of Bali, staying also at the beach and in the North.
Beautiful view of the Ubud valley but need some work in the cleanliness of the bale and the room. I found the room smelling quite musty the first day (probably had been empty for some time...) and the room not very clean. But overall, the staff were really nice and the breakfast included were good. Although the view of the valley was great from the trolley, view from our room was not well because there was a large tree obstructing our view. If you are going there be sure to get a room in the center rather on the side...
But it is worth it to go just for the breathtaking view!
Stunning Location. Feels totally exclusive and the service is excellent. Everything about this place is stunning! If I had to find something wrong - it's a bit of a drive to Ubud Village but well worth staying here for the complete feeling of luxury and seclusion!
Perched on the hillside, as promised, the valley views were breathtaking and absolutely stunning. No complaints and without a doubt UHG has the best views in Ubud (at present!) I loved the vast openness and to be surrounded by greenery. In the evening, you can actually see the mist rolling into the valley and engulfing the trees as the temperature becomes cooler.
The Ubud Hanging Gardens is a spectacular new hotel overlooking the Ayung River Gorge outside Ubud in central Bali. The hotel comprises 49 individual, detached pool villas built, amazingly, down the side of an almost sheer gorge; reception is at the top, the restaurant, main pools and bar are halfway down and the spa and cafe are at river level. The villas are set in lines of 5 or 6 units at various levels with the lower numbered rooms near the top and the higher numbers down in the river valley. Two staff operated funiculars take you up and down with stops on demand at each level.
Quiet, peaceful, like Shangra La
This hotel is excellent. My partner and I stayed here and found the rooms and the view just perfect. All of the rooms are on the side of the hill so if you want a good view it would be best to get one of the villa's higher up near the lobby. This is a great place if you are looking for total relaxation and some peace and quiet. You MUST have dinner at the French restaurant. The food was delicious and the prices were fair. The staff were attentive and friendly but the best thing about this place is the quiet, peaceful setting. I would most definetly make a return visit.
This hotel is an utter gem-it may be the most beautiful hotel i have ever stayed in. where to start... here are the best bits
