Tongariro National Park, North Island, New Zealand scher-air... to show what they can do.Once at the hut, this is a quiet forest waiting for us, the sun nicely warming up our bodies and this gorgeous view of a big white summit, Mount Rutapuhe, a splendide massive white cap. The last day of tramping this circuit is expecting us tomorrow, which mainly swirls in between Mount Rutapuhe and Ngauruhe, such that you don't know where to look, with Mount Tekani far west. From the Tama Lakes, this is an incredible view in all ...
Tongariro National Park, North Island, New Zealand mrdussThe kids woke up bright and early at 6 A.M. AGAIN (can't complain really…..that’s 11 A.M. in KC)-so I decided to take advantage of the day and go for a run along the lake. Spectacular! The snow capped mountains are stunning and the mirror calm lake is not something you ever see in K.C. God’s creation is unbelievable!!

... National Park. So we parked up in the evening at a campsite in Ohakune where we spent a really enjoyable evening chatting and sharing wine with a lovely spanish couple and an english couple from the Lake District.
In the morning we drove into the park to the information centre and did two, 2-hour long walks. First of all we did the Silica Rapids walk which runs alongside a little river, which has ...
... a couple of laps settling in to things. Then at the end of the back straight I came up on the string of 4 cars, with a very slow car in the front. Down the short straight to the tight hairpin (T11) they were all following each other, and as they were going slow, I couldn't wait so I moved inside and overtook 2 of the cars. After the hairpin I looked into the stands and could see Alex waving his hands in despair ...
Taupo, North Island, New Zealand daz1999... out of bed in the morning or at least coax her with a cup of tea. Today she was alert and organised, quite odd. She later admitted that she was terribly nervy about our sky dives - makes 3 of us! We arrived at the skydive centre a few minutes early. They really stressed to us that we shouldn´t get there before 11. I reckon people must drop out if they have to wait around for ages. I reluctantly signed an authorisation form that mentioned the word 'death' several times. In the end ...
Taupo, North Island, New Zealand joannesharpe... be pushed to describe this as "fun". The first hour's vistas are austere, volcanic and vegetation-poor. I am finding it extremelly hard to get into it and am becoming increasingly vexed by the over-zealous trampers who are just meters behind. Begrudgingly I let them overtake. The wind is whistling through the valley and the words of the guide echo in my ears, "the first one and a half hours are an easy warm-up". Not so easy it would seem ...
Tongariro National Park, North Island, New Zealand joelrose... First off, it looks like a little ball of fur or feathers, with a couple legs, long beak, and no tail or anything at the back. It also lives underground and comes out at night. And its eggs are huge! They had an x-ray of a pregnant kiwi and the egg took up almost her entire body. And is that the right term, pregnant? Are animals that lay eggs considered to be pregnant? Im not really sure. Anyway, we ...
National Park Village, North Island, New Zealand murf6481... our hostess neglected to tell us to avoid putting any mud on our foreheads, because it will slide back into the eyes, which can get dangerous apparently.
So we merrily applied our own mud packs and enjoyed the warm mud like a couple of cold hippopotomi.
Some of the more unkind amongst you ...
