Km 45 5 Carretera Guayacanes San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, 809-526-1726
... s content! Other than this development, the community of Vasca (pronounced "Basca" but spelled with a V, as I recently discovered...) has received little to no aid. I did distribute some school supplies to the small school that is there last year, and I remarked how much more in need the people are in that batey than in the ones that are closer to Consuelo, or closer to a main road. Anyway, after some members of my club came down last year for ...
Vasca, San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic la_profe... next to the cake and lit it for Ian to blow out. Very cute and creative :)
Later that week, I brought Ian to Consuelo to show him where I used to live last year, and to introduce him to all of the people who helped me during my time here last fall, and who have become very dear to me. I showed him the second place I lived, above the "salon Jenny" with Juana and Mino, and I took him to meet them...they were very excited to meet him! Next, we ...

La Romana, La Romana, Dominican Republic carlosjeremy... Tata is her nickname)!
This first week was of course, full of visiting all of my friends and my other family in Consuelo, and of course my Canadian friend Nicole came from San Pedro to see me the day I arrived! I was also in touch with my various employers, and had some Rotary meetings and apartment-hunting, and also some fun! It was so nice to see the Consuelo Rotarians again - especially Cristina and Victoria, who are my best Dominican gal friends!! I had many ...
... The garden is massive, and there are only 3 workers and no volunteers at the moment, as it is hot and hard work! The other projects that we are hoping to complete involve getting a tractor out there for a day or two...this is looking to be problematic, but I will see what comes of this at tonight's meeting. As well, they want to have someone measure and make proper uniforms (scrubs-style) for all of the "tias" - these are the women who work and live full-time with ...
San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic hmaclean... his operation, and the extra money will be able to go to paying for any post-operative medications and costs that he will incur. I want to personally thank all of you who have been involved and have donated for this cause...I cannot find the words to express how much I appreciate everything you all have done! When I told the family this news, they all burst into tears and hugged each ...
San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic hmaclean... in anything that I have to show her. She told me that she doesn't want my family to worry about me, so she wants to take the very best care of me that she can! I have managed to figure out the family tree a bit better. Sindy, the granddaughter, lives here, of course, as does Elena's daughter Tatika, her son Heraldo, and sometimes her other daughter, Mercedes. Mercedes is a doctor and has a clinic in Bavaro, which is the town ...
San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic hmacleanHello Americans, It has been a while since my last travelpod entry. I haven't been fighting a viscious case of malaria or sneaking across the Hatian border, I've just been too lazy to write. And while I wont attempt to narrate the past 3 months, here are a few highlights: On April 9 a group of about 100+ community members and I took a trip to the beach. (We had spent the previous 8 weeks fund-raising money for the trip by selling generic Vick's Vapor Rub, selling photos ...
Cacieuq, Dominican Republic bradleyhaas... When we came in to Peace Corps in September the peso was 16 pesos to 1 dollar and ever since then is has been increasing. The peso is now 55 pesos to 1 dollar. This is completely outrageous and yet our salaries have stayed the same. I have heard that they are talking about a raise, but it is just talking. Rumor has it that the peso will not be coming down, but just continue going up. I am making by and it is good that many of the people in my community ...
Los Coquitos, Hacienda, Monte Plata, Dominican Republic wylycm... to a wall. I get more food here that in the capital. My favorite jugo (juice) is lime juice (jugo de limón). That may be the reason that I have not gotten sick yet. Lime is a very good form of protection from colds here. I feel like my family laugh at me so much, but I just smile. I do things so differently, but I am trying to change. Like every time I go to the latrine, I bang the door a couple of times(to scare anything out), shine some light in, and bang the seat a few times. I ...
