... to wait for our breakfast. Fried eggs, beans, avocado, and bread. Perfect. I also had some grapefruit juice that was delicious. After renting one bike, and me sitting on the top with Mike driving, we got some postcards and stamps, and make reservations to go snorkeling in the afternoon.

Arrive in San Pedro

... the next day and heading back to my hotel. It was only about 8pm and I thought I'd be bored silly since the room didn't have a tv either. But, as soon as I got into bed and started to read, I new I wasn't going to last. I turned the light off at 8:30 and went to sleep very soon after. Before I booked the room I was warned that the rooms can get a little noisy because it's right in town, but I came prepared with ear plugs just in case. I woke up once in the middle of ...

Belize - San Pedro & Caye Caulker

... the name suggests was a haven for some beautiful fish.
We had a really great day out, well worth the 360Belizian dollars.

New Years Eve: We had a fairly chilled out day, had a swim in the 'Split' - there is no beach on Caye Caulker but there is a kind of pier between 2 parts of the island known as the 'split' where everyone goes to swim and hang out.
We took the 'sunset' sailing trip with Ragamuffin Tours to celebrate new year - it left ...

... dock where we got on a boat to Caye Caulker, a very small island off the coast of Belize. We arrived there at about 5pm and were greeted by the logo ´go slow´. We checked into our hotel which was basic but clean and also right on the sea front - our room had a view of the sea also! We then went to the tour company who gave us a talk on what we could do tmoz. Me, Nilly, Fi, Fabien and Piero signed up for the dive trip to the reef ...

... out significantly since the day we arrived. It was beginning to be about as empty as we had anticipated. There was a small party of some sort going on at the north split with a huge speaker system blaring out reggae. The beach was not very nice looking and everybody swimming seemed to be a local. We decided to just walk back towards the middle of the island. After seeing the whole island, we would ...

Arrival at Caye Caulker

... Cabana's pool to ourselves and ordered rum drinks at the bar to enjoy while we swam. Afterwards, we headed up to our room and watched the first TV we had seen in days, not that I had missed it much. Before we went to sleep, I took a shower. The water smelled very strongly of sulpher. We had read that the local water was the worst in Belize and fully believe it. It was definitely not something you'd want to get in your mouth by the smell...

Chilled in the Caribbean

... to immigration again, to leave, Guatemala and the another immigration to enter Honduras! So needless to say our passports are getting a nice little collection of stamps! The first bus brought us to a town called San Pedro Sula in Honduras and from there, we connected with the bus going to La Ceiba, which is where we are now. The reason being, the bus got a flat tyre on a motorway and delayed us from getting the boat across to Utila. We should be getting the boat today and ...

An Update

... of a sketchy neighborhood. Good thing we don't scare easily! He returned promptly and we hit the Western Highway out to our tour. Donald was great to talk to. He was excited about the UDP winning the election the day before. We really didn't know much about Belizean politics and it was nice to hear some positive reactions. We saw many cars, trucks and buses coming into Belize City from the countryside filled with jubilant campesinos ...

... atop of a Mayan ruin over looking the jungle was really amazing. I highly recommended it if you are ever there. After a full day at Tikal, I headed to Belize for a couple of days. I stayed two nights on Caye Caulker and one in San Pedro (It seems there is a San Pedro in every country in Central America ;-) I was spoiled by Guatemala's low prices so I was a little taken back to find everything in Belize costs just ...

Fishing and snorkeling the Cayes

... and the other sight has much more wild life. We then headed over to Hol Chan Reef. Hol Chan is a beautiful reef that has a cut in it that lots of wildlife comes to. The cut is about 28ft deep and 78ft wide and fairly long (maybe half of a football field). Here we hopped out and all snorkeled for a while. We saw some huge Eagle Rays, they were so damn big and so cool looking. We also saw a humongous turtle (I forgot ...
