Ranthambhore Road Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, India, 91-07462-221137-
We're on Safari. Roarrrrrrrrrrrr! Another comfy 4hr train ride (except the toilets), and we were in dusty, vibrant Rajasthan! Just like the guidebooks say, this arid, rubbly landscape is highlighted by women in beautifully colourful saris. Even women working on the roads or in the fields are in glamorous and exotic looking saris. Our train ended up being 3hrs late - with a few hours delay at one of the small town stations. But we had a caring fellow passenger keeping us informed, showing us t...
Ranthambore National Park (Tiger Safari!), India annawazhereHaving turned into budding David Attenboroughs, we couldn't wait to get to the tiger sanctuary at Rantambhore in the hopes of catching sight of one of the creatures. Tiger numbers have sadly been declining in the park and it seems that a number of the animals have been hunted for use in Chinese medicine. Despite this, our guide book suggested that our chances here were reasonably good. We booked ourselves in for two nights at the imaginatively titled Tiger Safari Resort, and a safari at 6 the...

... tree-pies, cormorants and the very funny jungle warblers who when we stopped the bus for a break, fluffed themselves up and invaded the vehicle. Totally unafraid they were funny and quite cute and a real close encounter. There are also marsh crocociles living in the park but we didn't get to see them we were cold and tired but very very happy. We got back to the hotel and getting our priorities right we had a look at our photos - not bad at ...
Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan, India hazelandmartin... look around, and sure enough there was
a female leopard lying in the grass right next to the road!
It was hot season while I was there, so the park was pretty dry and the
lakes were low, but there was still sooo much greenery and really
fantastic banyan trees everywhere. The dryness meant the plants were
dying back and so this led to better opportunities to spot animals. On
every trip I saw deer and monkeys ...
... permitted. Getting down from the vehicle and walking in the park is not allowed. The path in the park is quiet rough and bumpy , a good driver and jeep can only manouvre these rocky terrains. The surroundings were beautiful we were in the midst of nature, in the natural habitat of wild animals. We saw some exotic birds, different species of deers, lots of neelgais , wild boars and some crocodiles. In fact we had gone very close to a water hole where ...
Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan, India sagaruday... t considered that Indians celebrate new year at the same time as us, thought perhaps there was a different calender. Seems not. It was mega busy. I am forced against the gate with a load of other blokes, as time passes (prob been in line for over an hour now), it becomes more and more like the Hillsbourough disaster waiting to happen, people are arriving and finding out about the form also, and they have no pen either, the kids at the font with me are getting ...

jaipur, jodhpur, bikaner, jaisalmer,, India pulkitabc... hastily but am interrupted mid stream by that weird feeling...you know the one, where you realise someone is watching. I look behind and above me. A park ranger, rifle in hand, has been peering down at me this whole time. I hiss and yell and him and flee the scene. Honestly, I don't mind peeing in the outdoors; I don't mind that this is a national park: why should there be any tourist facilities? But for heaven's sake, India, do you think you could ask your ...
Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan, India darafly... being zone 1, the one next to it (anti-clockwise) zone 2. The expanse in the middle (this has the lakes and thereby the maximum wildlife) is the popular and sought after zone 3, followed by zone 4 and, finally, zone 5. It's the Forest Department that does the scheduling of where your vehicle is headed - so it is purely a matter of luck. But, just as zone 3 need not guarantee sightings, you might even strike gold in the other ...
