The police allowed us to pass through!

So we were allowed very late in the afternoon to pass through on our own risk. Finally we sent a friend of ours to check with our ...

Our day trip to Prokopi and Limni

We have elections in Greece this morning and there is heavy traffic on the Highways. On Monday most businesses are off work because it is a holiday here, and as it is a beautiful summer day most people are out with their families and friends trying to get advantage of this long ...

A TRIP TO KORASIDA IN EVIA

... happily. The day is spent mostly out in nature.

We visited the beautiful beach of KORASIDA in EVIA today. I wish I had taken my swimming suit along. Two or three people were swimming, although they admitted that the waters were cold !!!

I picked wild flowers and made our wreath which later on I hanged on the door of our house as the tradition says !!!
The fields were filled with all sorts of wild flowers and mostly popies.

Marathon

... The museum had trophies from famous Greek runners including one from a guy that won Boston and many other top marathons in the 1950's. Each Olympic marathon had a cool exhibit with details of the race including top finishers and a description of how the race unfolded. The museum was small but the information nicely presented. They didn't have that much in the way of souveniers but I picked up a couple of things. Maria was so ...

One blog to rule them all

... indeed. Day two was set aside for ruin watching. We started early as there were plenty to wander about in, photograph, read plaques, and generally ponder the long course of time, then probably give up as I can't remember much past the 1980's so the 480's bc's are just incompressible really. What I did know is the ruins all around the Acropolis do have a certain atmosphere of timelessness about them. They also afford wonderful views all over Athens as you'll see in the ...

Evia

My mother, sister and I took a trip to Evia. This was my grandfather's island as my mother would always say and after a couple of busrides, we reached his village. Then, through a series of unprecedented conversations with the locals, my mother in her fluent Greek turned to us, pointed to a derelict ...

Amazing trip to Delphi

... of the universe. In the inner Hestia, or hearth, of the Temple of Delphic Apollo, an eternal flame burned. After the battle of Plataea, the Greek cities extinguished their fires and brought new fire from the hearth of Greece, at Delphi. This was really a magnificent trip. I have wanted to go to Delphi pretty much since I was a teenager and I was not disappointed. Though there were loads of people there, while being guided at ...

... who happens to be related to the painter, was murdered by a Muslim extremist for making anti-Muslim remarks (he often referred to Muslims as "goat****ers"). In typical Dutch way, he was murdered riding his bike. The killer approached Theo, shot him a few times, then stuck a letter to him by impaling a knife in him. The letter threatening Job Cohen, the Jewish mayor of A'dam, and the Somali-born Member of Parliament, Ayann Hirsi Ali, who denounced her Muslim faith and often ...
