I guess, I have nothing much to say. I left my digital camera at the waiting area of Westin Hotel where we were picked up. I am quite sure I had it with me when I sat on the rocking chair. Fifteen minutes later, after we left the hotel, I discovered that I do not have my camera with me. I called up the front desk of the hotel and luckily the bellman found it and safekeeped it. Kudos to employees of Westin Our Lucaya, Grand Bahama. Enjoy the pics from this STAYCATION November.

Historical Traveler Reviews of The Westin Grand Bahama Island Our Lucaya Resort

Service not so hot.

from A TripAdvisor Member
The resort was beautiful and the Spa was unbelievable. Housekeeping, restaurant service and resort management was another story. Everyday we tracked down housekeeping for wash clothes, hand towels, shamoo, etc. We complained to the manager of Housekeeping, as well as the front desk but the problem persisted. The service in the restaurant, Willy Broadleaf, was practically non-existant. Once your order was taken and you received your drink you were on your own. My husband asked the cook for our server and 5-10 minutes later she arrived. Horrible!!!! If you can look past these issues and still pay the rate, this is the place for you.

Exceeded Expectations

from jkventure
My Husband, Son and I just returned from 7 nights (upon arrival, we extended from 5 nights) at the Westin, and it did exceed my expectations. The rooms at Breakers Cay are well furnished and we had a beautiful ocean view. The beds are the Best in the Biz! Harbor Club Staff was wonderful! In a Nut Shell: Staff was friendly and helpful. . . Beach was Beautiful. . . Weather Perfect . . . Pools were exceptional . . . . Drinks and Food a bit Pricey. Port Lucaya had affordable shopping, food and drinks. Dolphin Encounter was Great. Transportation to certain parts of the Island, was expensive, But Gold Rock Beach . . Breathtaking.

Great vacation!

I got such great tips from this site before going on vacation that I promised myself I would come back and share my experience for others. We stayed at the Westin and paid 1/4 of the rack rate by using priceline, what a great deal. The hotel is pretty, the staff was so friendly, and the pools and ocean were perfect. I would definitly choose any of the Our Lucaya properties for a future trip. I do not have once complaint about the hotel and I am not that easily pleased. Now for my advice. Renting a car is not necessary. Transportation is provided for almost all activities and taxis are readily available. We did rent from Brad's and were very happy with the low price and great service, but we ended up only using the car 2 of the 8 days we were there. If you want to save money don't eat at the hotel, hotel food is always expensive. Go across to Port Lucaya market and eat there. For low cost food we enjoyed Allies Conch Shack, Shenanigans, The Pub, and Fat Man's nephew. For 2 amazing and delicious meals we went to the Stoned Crab (right on the beach) and to Lucianos (Port Lucaya Market). Both ran about $50 dollars pp but were well worth it. For activities I highly recommend the Kayak trip through the national park and the dolphin experienc. If you want to snorkle then Grand Bahama Island is not the best place to go, but you can find a bit of sea life. Go to Paradise Cove for the day and while there will only be a bit of snorkling ohhs and ahhs it is so relaxing out there that you will enjoy yourself anyway. I just want to add that I am 6 months pregnant and found many fun activities that I could participate in. Every night in Count Basie square there is music and dancing outside and it is just so relaxing. While this was not my favorite vacation ever, I felt that it was a bargain for what we paid and we definitly got our moneys worth.

Lovely Ocean Getaway

from MarylandTravelers
We just returned from five days at the Westin at Our Lucaya and we had a wonderful time. (The Westin costs more than the nearby Sheraton, but it is a much nicer establishment and worth the extra money.) If you want a quiet, serene, romantic getaway, opt for the Lighthouse Pointe section of the resort. (The rest of the resort is geared towards those who want a faster pace or who have children.) Our oceanview room was lovely and the beach was clean, large and secluded in the Lighthouse Pointe Section. We have traveled to more than 10 islands and we were a little skeptical after reading some of the reviews on this site. However, we enjoyed ourselves tremendously and we are planning to return. I noticed that some of the visitors on this site complained that the prices at the hotel restaurants were a little high, but that's true of most resorts. Yes, a hamburger may have gone for about $10 at the Westin resort in Bahamas, but that's the same price that you would pay for a hamburger at a Westin in the U.S. too. If you want to pay lower prices, then you can always go across the street to the Port Lucaya shopping village. While they have some tasty selections there (e.g. Zorba's and Giovanni's), you won't receive the white glove service that we received at the hotel's restaurant called Churchill's. So it all depends on what you're looking for. Overall, we would highly recommend this resort. We enjoyed a great room, great location, great food and great service.

Wonderful

from stephen1192
My girlfriend and I just returned from 4 days/3 nights at the Westin, and we both were pleasantly surprised. The rooms at both Breakers Cay and Lighthouse Point were well furnished and clean with patios. The beds are indeed heavenly and the showers were also heavenly with their duel shower heads. We were upgraded for free to the concierge floor in the Breakers Cay which provided free internet service, continental breakfast, bottled water and appetizers in the evening...which we turned into dinner a couple of nights. I would highly suggest doing whatever it takes to get upgraded to these floors. Join the Starwood program if you haven't already as they are given preferential treatment. The pools are all very nice, but unless you have kids or are on spring break and want to get rowdy, stay away from the Sheraton pool (except the waterslide, you must do that once) and the pool in front of Breakers Cay as they are noisy and pretty crowded. The pool in front of Lighthouse Point is pretty and has stunning views of the beach. The beaches are very nice, but I was a bit bummed as I was hoping there would be snorkeling. Alas, you must take a boat to go snorkeling. The restaurants on property are okay but definitely expensive. During the day, I would suggest either dining at the pools as they have moderately priced and decent food or heading across the street to Port Lucaya for Subway or Dominos. In the evening, I have to admit that I never had a good meal. The restaurants across the street were all very mediocre and very expensive. I would just assume stay on property next time I go as the food was better. I would also suggest you bring snacks to munch on as there weren't really any good snack places there. For drinks, Iries has the best fruity cocktails on property. We took two excursions from the hotel, both of which were great..snorkeling and swimming with dolphins. The casino in town is a bit run down but serves its purpose. Overall, a very nice hotel with friendly staff. The bad news is that you are hito our 129 room went to 159 upon checkout. Hope this is helpful.

What a Great Place!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just got back from five days at the Westin/Our Lucaya. I stayed in Breakers Cay, upper floors. Ate at China Beach, Willy Broadleaf, and Iries. The staff were way beyond pleasant. They were uniformly friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The rooms are beautiful (if you want some couple time, pick Lighthouse Pointe's lanai suites.) The grounds are just beautiful and the ocean is body temperature. The pools at Lighthouse and Breakers Cay are about 100 feet from the ocean so you can sit in the pool on a raft with a rum drink and look at nothing but ocean. No one in other reviews mentions the location. I was with my son who attended a wedding of about 60 people. They stayed all over the place but always wound up coming to Our Lucaya since the beach is the best and it is right across from the PortLucaya Marketplace. Every night there is dancing, some rum drinking, and eating outside while watching locals and tourists mingle and dance. Very friendly local people.I've stayed in hundreds of hotels in dozens of countries. This is a first class place. No glitz, definitely not Vegas (the Casino hasn't opened and the one in the Oasis is very small), but beautiful and very relaxed.

Loved the Westin at Lucaya Beach, Bahamians very coruteous and polite. Would (and will) go back in a heartbeat!!

It was a wonderful vacation and VERY close to home. Lucaya beach is beautiful and maintained nicely. The Bahamians were friendly yet polite and service was excellent! I would go back in a heart beat and probably will!!

Great Time

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just returned from a great 6 night stay at Our Lucaya. The room in the Lighthouse Pointe Section was fantastic. Great section to stay in if you want something a little seculded. My brother stayed in the Breakers Cay section (ask for the harbour club level to receive free cold breakast and snacks/drinks in the evening). It worked out great for him since he has three young boys (15 years old) with him. But I found the Breakers Cay section to be a bit too much for me -- too many people. The food in the hotel is really good, but pricey. Expect to pay a 100.00 + for a meal at Churchills. They also had some nice tennis courts (hard, clay, astroturf and grass -- be sure to make a reservation as they fill up quickly. The marketplace across the street is just enough of the "Freeport experience" to satisfy everyone. Dinnng, dancing, jewelry, dive/snorkel boats, etc. We'll definately be back!

Wonderful Spring Break Trip at the Westin

from EastCobbmom
Our Family (including our twin 13 year olds) just returned this evening from a five day stay at the now renamed Westin GolF and Beach Resort at Our Lucaya. Like many of the persons who read reviews on this board, I had also been concerned about whether our expections for a great vacation would be met. I can assure anyone who is a fairly discerning/demanding traveler that you should be more than pleased with the Westin. We had booked through our travel agent, an Executive Suite with one bedroom, 1 and 1/2 bath and small kitchen. When we arrived 3 hours before check-in time we were immediately shown to our suite (ocean view- as per our request) on the Harbour Club level - private concierge floor. ( An unexpected treat). The suite was huge, well- appointed with large double balconies, and plenty of space for a family of 4 who likes to spread out. I would definately recommend this type of accomodation if you are traveling with children. The hotel provided an additional roll-away bed as we had requested which supplemented the pull-out sofa bed in the evening. The Westin's Heavenly Bed and Showers were huge hits with our family. We normally stay at Ritz-Carlton Resort propertties throughout the south or West Coast and many features of the Westin-Breaker's Cay rivaled that experience. The staff almost without exception are warm, friendly and eager to help, On the day of check-out we were told that as concierge club level guests we would be allowed to shower and change in the Senses Spa area before leaving for the Airport. What a non-stressful way to get ready. Upgrading to the Harbour Club level is worth the price if you want a substatial continential breakfast each morning, drinks and hordeourves in the afternoon and gratis business services. The only change we would recommend is for some menu variation in the 3 pool grill areas on the property- as children and families can grow weary of the same choices after 3 days. All in All for 295 dollars a day we would highly recommend the Westin as anay!

Our lucaya, almost perfect

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at Our Lucaya this past week, and it was wonderful. First thing about the Bahamas in September, there is no one there. Some parts of the resort were closed for renovations, and some restaurants had limited hours, but that was OK.

I don't think the place is as staffed up as during the busy season either, as can be expected, but the service was helpful and friendly.

We had an oceanview room at Breakers Cay that was great. Upon arrival the safe did not work and the TV remote did not work, but both were remedied within an hour. I told the maintenance desk that the remote had no batteries, and someone came up to the room with no batteries, took the remote and returned it 20 min. later, kinda wierd.

Golf was great, since no one was on either course and you had the place to yourself. My wife loved the spa.

The casino is not open yet, and the shuttle that they claim runs to the Royal Oasis is not reliable. The people at the desk said it ran every day, and the valets out front said it only ran on weekends. I won't get too upset, cause Our Lucaya doesn't run the shuttle, and when I called the Royal Oasis, I couldn't get a straight answer either.

The restaurants: China Beach was incredible, so was the Champagne brunch at Willy Broadleaf's. Churchill's was reasonably good, Portabello's not so good.

Once thier casino opens, we'll be going back.
