Historical Traveler Reviews The Royal Sands Cancun

    Received the royal treatment

I read the reviews about the Royal Sands on your site before I decided on booking a special from another web site and most of the reviews were great. The reviews did not lie..... it is the best 5-star resort I've ever stayed in. The staff was very helpful and friendly; they do a great job in making your stay pleasant and relaxing. Whatever you need, they have it and if they don't, they can get it for you. The villa (room) is spacious, very clean with a kitchen and eating area and a balcony to sit and relax. Plenty of pools and beach. The view from your villa is so soothing with plenty of blue skies and blue water. The mini-market is convenient to get food to cook or other goodies; the restaurants are reasonably priced with good food. The resort also has a top of the line spa with all of the exercise equipment, hot tubs, salon that you might find in any nice health club in the US. If you do not want to leave the resort, they have several daily activities to keep you occupied during the day. And the current singer at the Royal Bandstand, their new entertainment center was great. If you are not a current member of their vacation ownership, they give you the opportunity to inquire about it. Unlike other "timeshare offers", they do not do any "pressure selling" at all. I found that so refreshing, especially with all of the timeshare offers that tourists in Cancun get inundated with. During the week stay, they did not approach us about possible membership until the day before we left and we spent about an hour talking to their staff and they let us know what they have to offer; they did not attempt to beg us to become a member. They don't have to pressure-sell, they offer such a great product. If I had the funds for the membership, I probably would have joined. I hope to get the opportunity to return.

    Resonse to travel lady

In response to your experience:1) Understand that Apple Vacations is a JOKE2) All 5 of the Royal Resorts including the Royal Sands are TIMESHARES. The average price to buy one week for 30 years at this resort is $26,000. They cannot just "move you" to a closer villa to what you want to be near. These villas are OWNED by members. This is NOT a hotel. That is why you sign for everything and they do not accept cash. This is a benefit for members! The staff is not accustomed to people who come and have a "meal plan". And, of course you had to move rooms! Somebody owned the villa for the next week after you were there!3) It is unfortunate that the managment of the Royal Resorts has choosen to rent unused villas to people who are only accustomed hotels. But, I can assure you on behalf of the owners that this is nothing shy of a first class resort. You just don't understand the system...

You Will Love The Royal Sands The Best Place

You will love the Royal Sands because it is so relaxing and so much fun in the HUGE POOLS. They have a wonderful Resturant at The Sands and a grocery store and a fabulous Spa too. There is tons of sercurity all over the place, so you don't have to worry about anyone stelling anything. There are kid activities and games. For example, Bingo, Pool Games, Beach vollyball, Painting, Stained Glass Painting, Spainsh Lessons and LOTS MORE FUN STUFF! ITS ALL FREE!!! So if your thinking on going on vacation PICK CANCUN THE ROYAL SANDS!!!!! You can visit the ROYAL SANDS WEBSITE AT ... Have fun and always be RELAXEDAmber

Just came back from the Royal Sands and it was the best place to stay in Cancun. You're far enough away from the Spring Breakers in the downtown area so that you feel like you're in paradise. But you are also minutes away if you want to go to there for the clubs, bull flights, or restaurants w. mariachi bands. It's also a perfect location for visiting the Mayan ruins in the Yucatan. Most importantly, the staff is wonderful and do everything to help you. They do this whether you just want to stay in the hotel and drink margaritas at the swim up bar, or you want some adventure on the peninsula and need advice and info.

    Royal Sands is Awesome!

The Royal Sands is amazing! First class suites , excellent restaurants , service is always excellent! The beachfront is absolutely beautiful! Breathtaking views of the unbelievable blue Carribean waters will place your troubled mind at ease. The staff will go out of their way to make your stay incredibly comfortable and relaxing. The ammentities are top of the best! Next time you are in least go by to visit and look around!

    I felt like royalty!!

I loved the Royal Sands!! This was my first trip to Cancun. Everything at the RS was perfect. The week started out with a informative meeting that included coffee and danish and then an afternoon poolside party with an open bar. The staff there were very courteous and helpful. The rooms are so clean and comfortable. The on-site grocery store was very helpful and not too expensive. We even paid a little visit to the on-site doctor before we left and she was helpful and nice. They like for you to use your key to pay for everything there, which made everything very easy. We were able to keep three separate running tabs for one room. If you check out early, the grocery store may not have change for you, though. They kinda gave us a hard time our last day. The business center could use some improvement. When they say they close @ 5pm, they mean it. They won't let you keep them there late. The rooms all have a safe in them as well as a gorgeous and large deck over looking the resort. Our room had a view of the pool and the ocean. Simply beautiful. Oh, the activities were great too! Any age can find something to keep them busy. Ceramics, bingo, crafts, and many others. Most are free. Happy hour at the pool and beach is from 3-5pm and all drinks are half price. What more could you ask for? Definitely want to go again!!!

    Awesome Hotel!

My wife and our 3 daughters stayed at the Royal Sands in August of 2002 and had a GREAT time. The rooms were great, the pool was a blast, we all had a very wonderful time and plan on returning soon!

    Wonderful getaway

Took a long weekend to getaway from Michigan's icy weather and Cancun embraced us in warmth and sunshine. The rooms at the Royal Sands are spacious and comfortable with each room offering an oceanview. We had to switch rooms during our stay and I was sorry to leave the fifth floor for a ground level room. Definately a better view from above. Would go back in heart beat and for atleast a week next time.

    Very Nice!!!!

I went to Cancun in December 2002. The Royal Sands was by far the nicest place I have ever visited. It exceeded my expectations by far. After seeing many of the hotels, on the beach, I knew that my family has chosen the most luxurious one. We stayed in a 2-bedroom villa and it was huge. I know that 8 people could stay there. It has a king size bed, 2 full size beds, and 2 twin size beds. There was a full size kitchen that was fully equipped. We enjoyed the balcony. It was really huge. There was a big table with four chairs and two lounge chairs also. My family appreciated the service. There was a lady who came by every day to make sure we were having fun and helped us plan tours. It says at the website that this hotel goes for over a thousand a week. Check out ... We found a special there for 89 bucks a night. It was an awesome deal. I can not say enough great things about this resort. It has a great huge swimming pool too with a swim up bar. Every day from 3 till 6 there is happy hour and you can get cheap drinks. My friends and family plan on going back during the summer and Royal Sands will be our first choice!!

No wonder they call it ROYAL

Visited this beautiful resort beginning of June 2002. Did a lot of resort researching on-line, and got hooked on Royal's website by their pop-up ad. Said something like rent a villa for $1000 week, or whatever. I thought, a villa ? How big is this place ?

Discovered their floor plan as a 2 bedroom suite and called into the travel agency. Got a deal with them for the 2-bedroom villa and R/T air for 2 for about $800/pp. DONE !!! I know R/T air is about $550/pp alone so I figured $500 for a 2 bedroom suite for 7 nights was a steal.

Ended up on the 8th floor I believe overlooking pool and ocean. GORGEOUS !!! The room was A+. My only complaint is that its so damn humid there, I guess most hotels suffer from that mildewy smell. What a difference from standing in the A/C and then walking onto the balcony. Both of my cameras fogged up, and my DV camcorder was inoperable for about an hour due to the condensation. Maid service daily, very friendly, fresh towels, paper, and wasked our sink out.

The pools were nice. Pool bar was fun. Ask for Nacho... that's his nickname. Funny character.

Health club is kind of small but adequate for a vacation resort. Their spa was awesome. I was at the gym every day from 7-8am, then jumped in their steam room and sauna. Had 2 massages while I was there and my haircut in the salon. HOWEVER, I got a rookie working on my precious hair and made it a simple trim. My girlfriend bailed me out. Thanx babe !

Breakfast buffet was excellent. Scrambled eggs, french toast, sausage links, potatoes, meatballs ( THE FREAKIN BEST). In fact, they had meatballs twice. I mentioned to our hostess on my last day that I wish they had meatballs out that day. She went to check and had them heat some up for me within 10 minutes. PSYCHE !!!

Now, working in the hotel industry for 9 years myself in room service, I can appreciate great service. I also rip someone when I don't get good service. There was NO ONE at the hotel that dissapointed me, except for the front desk clerk who slipped my checkout slip under my door reminding me I had to leave that morning.

However, watch out for the time-share folks. On the website, the units range from $30's to $40's. I saw online as resale for $15-21k. Still a pretty steep price for time share.

Heading back to Cancun probably in December, but don't know if I can block the Royal Sands from Sunday to Sunday. If not, I'll need to post another review when I get back. Glad to help anyone with questions regarding this property. Have dig pics of the resort and balcony.

... the instructor to a 'reef' where we snorkelled for half an hour. This was fun as it was in a beautiful turquoise bit of the Caribbean but the reef was pretty sparse and dull. I thought it looked dead to what I've seen before. But we saw some nice fish and there was a shoal of some cool fish which swam right round you. At one point I put my mask in the water and a fish swam right in my face. After a quick drink, we took the boats back to the Aquaworld place. The so called ...

We met our tour leader, Lisa, this morning and she suggested we visit Isla Mujeres, where she has her home. We took a taxi to Puerto Juarez, the ferry terminal for 40 pesos ($A4) about a 15 minute trip. Purchased return tickets for 146 pesos ($A14.60). The ferry trip is about 30 minutes. Isla Mujeres is a small island is 7km and 650 m wide. ...

Last Day Together With La Torre

A travel blog entry by phil_in_nz on Dec 17, 2014

Today was the last day that I got to spend together with my old roomies from Monterrey. Now you might be wondering how four of us come to be here at the same time. Might surprise you if I say we are basically six of us here! Luis had spent a week here in Cancun together with Sergio staying at Soffs place and Anna was somewhere on the peninsula as well, but had already passed Cancun unfortunately. Well, I think Anna was the first one to buy a ticket, and one promotion later ...

... it flapped around in the breeze in slow motion. I couldn't be stuffed walking any more so I grabbed a cab and asked to go to the mall. What mall? The big one I replied. I really had no idea. I followed my map as we drove, we went past the area considered the centre of the touristy area and continued. I really saw very little. Just hotels. Where's all the people? I noticed a lot of Crocodile signs on the lagoon side of the road, I asked if there were crocs in ...

You wouldn't believe it, but after nearly two weeks of overcast and rainy weather we walked out to breakfast today with the sun out and some blue sky, right when we are planning to leave. Haha! Oh well you win some you lose some. We checked out just before 11am and caught the bus to Cancun, we fly out of Cancun tomorrow to head to Mexico City then on to Peru. We got to Cancun around 12 midday and were checked into our hotel by 12.30. The sun was still out and it was nice and hot so we ...
