I'm typing this in the Kahului Airport in Maui waiting on our plane to take us to the Big Island. I don't have Wi-Fi so it won't be sent until we get to our hotel in the Waikoloa Village [Y-ko-loa] this afternoon.

On Sunday morning Mom, Helen, and Deborah when to Pearl Harbor and toured the USS Arizona Memorial. I can't provide any details …

I walked down to the surf here at Honokahua Bay. The waves were quite big but breaking close and shallow. We then organised a van to take us for a tour. We drove south through Kahana and down the Honoapiilani Highway which was bordered by many resorts facing the ocean. We drove through Lahaina an old whaling town which has retained many of its …

After a delicious breakfast at The Royal Hawaiian, I paddled in the water at Waikiki. It was a beautiful morning on the beach. We then packed and left from the airport on a Mokulele Airways flight to another island -Maui. It was a 9 seater Cessna Caravan and was a very comfortable trip. As we flew from the island of O'ahu over Honolulu we could see …

Going to the Ritz

It was a long day because we flew through Oahu and Ruth and Ted were not accustomed to air travel. We all were ready for rest. The Ritz is a nice place for that.

We drove to Dallas and spent the night at the hotel at DFW. It was right inside our terminal, so we literally got up, had breakfast, then walked to our gate. Direct flight to Kahului; we arrived around 3:15, found Rob waiting for us at the airport, then drove to the Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua. We stayed at the Exclusive Resorts residences and we …

    Just What We Expected

The Ritz-Carlton did not disappoint us with their beautiful property, friendly staff and excellent amenities. We stayed here back in 1997 for our honeymoon and loved it. This time we stayed at the Exclusive Resorts residence, and the property was ideal with a fabulous ocean view. Even though Kapalua is more remote than Kaanapali or Lahaina, it is about 10 degrees cooler and we really love it.

Lovely hotel with great service and fantastic views. The hotel was in need of a little "face lift" when we were there.

    Ritz Carlton Kapalua -aaaaahhhhhh

    from

We stayed at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua in Maui for out honeymoon in August '02. It was absolutely fantastic. The hotel and grounds are kept impeccably. THe service, food and ambience was outstanding. It was a dream. It made our honeymoon really special. The location was beautiful. Probably the best setting on the island. We went around to the other resort areas such as Kaanapali, Makena, Wailea, and Lahaina, but Kapalua was simply the most serene and the most beautiful. It really was amazing. The food in the resort restaurants was excellent. THe food at the Banyan Tree (by the pool) was especially delicious; try the boullabaise. And the breakfast buffet was great. Freshly made belgian waffles everyday along with the usual breakfast fare and some gourmet additions. Fresh fruit juices, pastries, breads. It is not the usual breakfast buffet of runny eggs and burnt bacon one imagines, it was outstanding. We recomment a nice nap after breaksfast , before you hit the pool. Aside from the resort fee, the costs were totally worth it. If you want to splurge and vacation in luxury for once, do it here.

    Great beds and pool service

    from

We checked in early, the agent at the desk told us we got upgrade to a ocean view deluxe room. C/I was nice and friendly. Our room was the last two from the end of corridor, view was really great but a very long walk from lobby. The decor is a little bit too busy for a resort, bath is large and lots of marble. The feather bed and linen makes the the bed ultra comfort.Had lunch and dinner in Banyan Tree, service at dinner time was great. Breakfast at the Terrace was nice also (they changed our silverware everytime you walk to buffet area). Housekeeper was attentive, but bellservice was ok only. We told him the desk lamp was out, he said he would call Engineering to fix it. And he never did.

    Windy

    from

Very nice, beach is far from hotel, rooms are not huge, around the pool is very windy and somewhat cool, the carmalized onion with goat cheese pizza is fantastic

    Way overrated

    from

We stayed at this property after reading great reviews in various travel periodicals. We were hugely disappointed withour stay at the Ritz. To begin with the furnishings were overdone for a tropical setting. We did not like the heavy English fabrics and furniture. The hotel sits too far from the beach and the restaurant where breakfast is served is even farther away than the rooms. Carpets in the rooms, hallways and restaurant were dirty. Things smelled musty and damp. Service at the restaurant at breakfast was unprofessional. The health center was not well ventilated, staff not helpful and equipment broken. (all this for an extra charge). Overall we found the hotel staff to be only moderately helpful. The tennis facilities do not really belong to the hotel and were not availble for use during our stay. The pool was ok but there is no excuse for having to pay extra for a chair with a tent. All in all not good value/ We'd much prefer spending a little more at the Four Seasons -Wailea. You may pay more upfront, but you do not get nickled and dimed... our experience at the Ritz was not up to the standards of a five or four star property. We will not return.

    Believe what you read

Superb place - great staff, great rooms. Depending on the time of year you stay there weather may not be too kind. That was the only wanring we had heard, but it was marvelous in late January. The hotel is very spread out, so don't get an oceanview room if you don't like to walk. The rooms are phenomenal. Probably the nicest Ritz I've been to.

    Outstanding!

    from

The Ritz Carlton standards of excellence are definitely met here. Beautiful grounds; nice spacious room.

Service was superb. Concierge outstanding and very helpful with driving directions and making reservations for activities. Only issue was the TV (not that you go on vacation to watch TV--but....) -- the cabinet it is kept in is very low and the bed (which is comfortable) is very high -- so it was difficult to watch it lying down. Oh well, even the Ritz Carlton can't be perfect -- but they come close! If you can afford it -- it is definitely worth it and I would stay there again if I returned to

    The Ritz in Maui

    from

****The Ritz in Kapaluah is fantastic****** We stayed in a Deluxe Ocean Front with a king size bed that was beyond compare. The Bathroom was large and marbled and the view was awesome. I highly suggest it for anyone on their Honeymoon or for anyone who wants to relax. (If you want a livelier more crowded atmosphere then the Westin or the Sheraton around Lahania or Kapalua is for you) The staff was extremely helpful and ready to assist. It is true that the pool is windy and the beach could be better but the wind is bearable and the beach is pleasant it's just not the "Worldclass" beach right down the road in Lahania.

    Absolutely gorgeous

    from

This hotel will be one of my dream hotels for the rest of my life. I absolutely enjoyed my stay here. I would recommend it if you wanted to spend a little extra money to live in luxury for a week. The rooms were big, clean and the bathrooms alone could have been a room. Our bathroom had marble on the walls floor to ceiling. The restaurant and pools were great. This will be my dream wedding location in the future since while I was visiting I saw a wedding at sunset on the beach. Gorgeous. I also stayed at the Ritz on the big island. Both are recommended highly. See it!
