Larry plays with the pros

A travel blog entry by vivicarroll

Larry played in the Liberty Mutual sponsored Senior Pro Am Golf Tournament with Tommy Jacobs and Gay Brewer. The round with Tommy was Larry's best game ever. He contributed 14 points for his team and tied for first place. Liberty Mutual gave great presents to all the participants!

... tourists! Having forgot to bring a banana I bought an equally healthy Burger King for brunch, but had to eat half the meal in about 20 seconds when I was called for boarding just as my burger got delivered to my table. The flight across was alright, I don't really know where the eight hours went. Part of it was panicking after my 'non leaking' water bottle decided it didn't like to be lying down so protested by emptying its contents in to my ...

As if I didn't already love Weezer enough, this cruise has completely reinforced my loyalty and respect for them more than I imagined it could. Yes, I love their music. They are a great live act and they have remained themselves despite years of money ...

    Wonderful experience

    To Whom it Concern,

It's the small things that will drive you crazy

REcently attended conference here. The Ritz is in a truly lovely location, and the "ladies and gentlemen of the Ritz" try hard to make your stay pleasant. Sunday brunch is terrific. BUT it's the little arriving at 11 AM, being told we'd be called when our room was ready. Returned to the desk at 2:30, were told "soon, soon". Returned at 3:30...were told that since we had just arrived at 2:30, we were a long way down the list! Made it known that we'd been there since 11 AM, were taken to a room. Meanwhile, they had our bags, so we were unable to freshen up. This is not the treatment one expects from a Ritz property. Also, the housekeeper kept taking away 4 towels and leaving two fresh ones. So we'd request two more, get them, and have the same problem the next day. As I say, it's the little things...

Great for families- not for couples

I just got back from my trip to the Ritz Carlton at Amelia Island. The hotel was clean but not as elegant as I would have expected for $400 a night. If you are looking for a romantic getaway, this is not the place. The hotel seemed to be oriented entirely for families. The pools were swarming with children running in and around the pool area. The bistro was very overpriced. This was certainly not what I would have expected from the Ritz Carlton.

Service is greatly lacking at this Ritz Carlton

Our overall experience at this Ritz Carlton was merely adequate. For the price, I thought our ocean front room was rather small. It took housekeeping ALL DAY to get to our room---I mean by 5 p.m. on two occasions our room still had not been touched. Valet parking was extremely slow. On several occasions we waited between 20-30 minutes for our car. Service for drinks around the pool was spotty. The decor was pretty but not exceptional. The beach was nice and not very crowded. The food in the restaurant was good but again service was hit or miss. Our children loved the pool area and it was family friendly from that stand point. I expected the prices for food, spa services to be astronomical but I also expected to receive service that would equal the price and that was not the case here. I doubt that we will return--too many other nice ocean front resorts to explore.

What a relaxing 3 night getaway! Staff is very attentive to any needs you may have. Our room was on the 7th floor with a garden view - all rooms have just been renovated. The breakfast in the Cafe is second to none. My husband was able to walk right out the front door of the hotel to the adjacent golf course. I on the other hand got to use the car and drive in to Fernandina Beach to shop and have a wonderful lunch. We will certainly return in the near future.

    Mixed bag

We recently returned from a three day trip at the Ritz Carlton on Amelia Island. We stayed in an oceanview suite, which was extremely nice. The rooms were, of course, well appointed and spacious. Beach was wonderful, staff excellent, etc. However, like other reviewers, it was the little things that *weren't* expected that were a bit off-putting.

Paradise on earth...with one small caveat

    Call it 4.5 dots, actually.

    Good time

We just got back from a great 4th of July weekend at the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island. The place has a really nice beach, good food, and nice, clean rooms, many of which have decent views of the ocean, especially sitting on the balconies. For any one looking for family destination hotels, this seems to be a fabulous resort. They had so much for kids to do - from toys, games, and kiddie pools, to slip and slides, kayaking and parasailing. Our one complaint was the size of the pool.

Best ritz in the 50 states

I stayed there for 5 days the hotel was full it was the 4th of july .They did a great job with all those people an we still got paid attn.too.It was a good time in N.Florida we will be back next year.

    Be Careful!

This particular Ritz Carlton did not measure up to its siblings. Perhaps this was due to the fact that we visited over Memorial Day weekend. The hotel was packed! Finding a space near the pool was virtually impossible. Finding a space on the beach was easier, but still took some effort. Valet Parking and Room Service were mediocre at best - often slow to respond to gusts needs. This was a surprise given the attention to detail experienced at other Ritz Carlton hotels. My advice - do not stay here during a holiday weekend. We will continue to stay at Ritz Carlton hotels - just not this one.
