Anywhere is paradise, it's up to you. -Anonymous
Arrived in Bermuda at 12:00. Taxi took us to the Swizzle Inn for lunch (for our traditional Seabreeze sandwich and Rum Swizzles!) and then on to The Reefs. Checked in, settled in, enjoyed a beautiful sunset and delicious dinner, danced to "September". Ahh....great 1st day back on "my island"!
Last day in paradise
... t that what you're supposed to do on vacation?
We have really enjoyed the beaches and the warm water this time. I think living in Cape Town with freezing seas really makes you appreciate how nice it is here.I think my travel plans may have to change to come back twice a year in future.
So until next time, farewell Bermuda!

So hat der Bürgermeister von New York und Silvio Berlusconi hier ein ...

One special exhibit covered the Portuguese in Bermuda: many were tempted to come from the Azores, to provide an agricultural base; laws restricted the types of jobs Azoreans could hold, limiting them to being gardeners and farmers; only in 1982 were the restrictions removed. In one building, the sign advertised a future exhibit, about shipwrecks, including "the science ...

Historical Traveler Reviews The Reefs Southampton
An Outstanding Choice!
As a seasoned traveler, I must say that Bermuda remains a favorite destination. And The Reefs by far remains our choice of hotel on the island. (We have stayed at several other well-known hotels there during the past twenty years.) Our trip to The Reefs each Christmas is like returning home. Not only is the service excellent, but the staff is so genuinely kind and friendly that one cannot help but feel a little sad upon leaving. No wonder The Reefs has attained such extraordinary ratings by Travel and Leisure as well as Conde Nast Traveler these past few years. Having just returned, I am already planning a return trip this Spring!
One Great Place
My family has travelled to Bermuda and The Reefs
10+ times. Each&every time the property delivers consistant, superior
service and attention to detail.
Our 2 boys can't wait to get back to The Reefs! To the reviewer who said "nice, not great"...please vacation at the Bellagio if you think a price point mandates marble lobbies and multi head steam showers in every room. If the fabulous beach at The Reefs is "too small",than go on a sixteen hourflight to Thailand or a 10 hour flight to Mauritius!
The Reefs has met our every expectation, every single time..and that is why people repeat and not
only the "elderly" The people who enjoy the hotel do so because most of
the guests have been many
places and see true value for money in this outstanding property.
I spend my business life in places like the Bellagio,
or the Four Seasons in New York. What my family wants in a vacation....is a vacation!! The Reefs offers the pleasant respite that people really need
in a vacation. On a five day holiday I do not want the Wall Street
Journal under my door. My family does not need a bathroom stocked with
the latest from Joe Malone or a minibar with POP champagne. we are on
vacation..great food,lovely ambiance,wonderful water and a staff and
management that far exceeds Donald Trump's expectations.
The reviewers comment on the $50.00 cab rides..
step 110 feet from the lobby and ride the bus into Hamilton or Dockyard. Meet the wonderful people that make up a wonderful place called Bermuda.
I urge the reviewer to return to Bermuda and to The Reefs. Try a
cottage stay and enjoy a cocktail
on the deck overlooking the best front lawn in the world..that Atlantic Ocean.
Come to think of it,what to Michael Bloomberg,Bill Gates,Larry
Ellison.and have in common...they vacation in Bermuda....the beautiful
gem ninety minutes by air from the East Coast. Barbados, St
Thomas,Tobago,Belize,Grand Cayman....not on a bet...BDA all the way!!!!
Perfect Honeymoon destination!
If you are looking for a romantic honeymoon destination, The Reefs is it! You can do (or not do) as much as you want. The location is perfect, it is a small resort so you never feel crowded. The views, staff, food is wonderful. Make sure to spend the extra money and book one of the newly remodeled Jr. suites.....you will want to take the bathroom and balcony home w/you! Get a day pass from the front desk for the bus and it also covers the ferry. We looked at every resort on the internet and were thrilled we picked The Reefs. We even spoke w/people that were just dining there that were staying at places like Elbow Beach and they were sorry they were not staying at The Reefs....book now...hope they have room for us again!!
Vacation at the Reefs
Just returned from a lovely vacation at The Reefs. The staff was very accomodating and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious with a choice of dining at other hotels or trading a dinner for lunch. Our first room was overlooking the pool. Decided to trade for another room and we were taken care of by the next night. Would recommend swinging for a deluxe room rather than the superior. The beach is great but can be a little rough if the wind is blowing hard (if you want to snorkel walk down to Church Bay or if too windy, take a bus over to St. George's and go to Tobacco Bay. Found riding the scooters hectic. Has gotten to be too much traffic to feel safe on them. Go for the day pass to ride the bus and ferry.
We Love the Reefs
This was our 5th stay at the Reefs. While the room was not luxurious (how could it be with guests bringing in sand and sunscreen from the beach)it is adequate and the only improvment the Reefs could make. The views, however, are fantastic. If you like a small ,secluded , well groomed beach with all the amenitites, few kids , you will love their beach. This place is for relaxing, serene vacations. The Spa was great, the people were very friendly and love working there. We found the food to be very good except for one dish. We dined on the beach one night which was great. One word about the motor scooters- we've rented them every time but this time had a hard time controlling them and gave them up after one day and a couple of mishaps. Take the bus or cab if you want to see the island. We'll go back.
Nice, not great
The Reefs and Bermuda are lovely, but don't go expecting the same luxury as the price tag would warrant. This was our first time and we found the resort to be limited. The beach is nice, but small. The rooms have terrific views, but the furnishings/bath are not luxurious. Ants are ubiquitous and facilities are aging. Also, it's not close to the common sightseeing sites like Crystal Caves or Aquarium for the kids. Cab fares are like $50 roundtrip to go to those places. For the resort price, you can get better water dives and lodgings in Cayman. Likewise, the restaurants are adequate, but definitely not the caliber that I expected after reading the other reviews. Many people are elderly and return yearly.
The Reefs - Just GO!
We were there for 5 days on July 1st. 2003 (2.5hour direct flight from TO). This is a very special property and is worth a premium price. For a completely relaxing break this is the place, no matter what the weather. Food was excellent and the quality of all servies was sensitive and well delivered. A small word of advice..... rent a scooter from Walter at Oleander cycles across the street. Don't rent for the day, rent for the whole stay and park it at the Reefs.
Sometimes life at The Reefs is TOO relaxing and it is nice to be able to run off into town (Hamilton) at a whim if you wish. We'll be back....hope they have room for us.
Best vacation ever
We just spent our 30th anniversary at the reefs and it was better than we could have imagined. The staff is wonderful, they all seem to really like working there and go out of there way to make you feel welcome. The food is terrific, and the beach is like you would see on a postcard. We are already planning to go back next year.
The Reefs, The Best, Period.
The first day in bermuda, it rained so my wife and I got a taxi and visited the top ten hotels and moved from Camberidge Beach Hotel(nice but very reclusive) to The Reefs. Full service, Intimate hotel with private beach to die for. Great nightly enteratainment. Very special setting.
The Reefs is the best
I have been to Bermuda several times, and quite frankly The Reefs is just the best. I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else. The location, the amenities, the service, the food, the friendliness, are all superior. The Reefs has won numerous awards from gourmet and travel magazines.
