THE BIG DAY

The Big Day has finally arrived. We got up early and went to the markets, the best men had a hell of a time hiding Matt everytime they saw me walk past. Thankfully he didnt see me so that was good. We had arrange that Donna spend most of the day at the Rarotongan Beach Resort and Matthew at the Lagoon Lodges to avoid bumping into each other. There was a lot of work to get done. Donna had hair, makeup and nails to be done, as well as move all the stuff into the honeymoon suite which is awesome...

... 8220; Bit of a tense moment but he got on. Didn’t realise he wanted to ride the 500 metres to the wharf where the Amsterdam’s tenders were docking. Lazy old ratbag. Some people just shouldn’t leave their holes, especially old “bow-to-me-world” Americans like that guy. Stay calm Rarotonga, they’ll be gone soon.

This is really such a beautiful place and every time we ride the bus around the island it just ...

... on and off we went to test the new camera. Didn’t see that much life apart from one starfish, some purple coral, a few fish and ten gazillion sea slugs. My god! They are everywhere. Literally millions of them. I’ve since heard they are an a bit of an ecological disaster and are literally covering the lagoon and everything in it with slug ****. Sounds yummy heh? All we know is that they feel pretty gross when you stand on ...

... so expensive. Definitely the most expensive place we have been. Such things as food and internet were so expensive and the internet was liked 1960s speed. It cost about 5 euro for 30 mins internet. Prices were ridic for alot of things so we ate in as much as possible.
Aitutaki was very quiet with no pubs (only in main hotel and lodgings there) and didnt have much to do bar relax and soak up the laid back lifestyle. We only really had 1 very good day of sunshine and luckily ...

Island Time..

... down by bootleg alcohol, bought from the garage after everyone had left the premises and hidden in backpacks. Despite a troubled and disturbed sleep, due to noise emanating from the common area, there were a number of new people who had arrived on the afternoon flight from Auckland, I decided to wake up early (6 am) to see the sunrise. Wrapped in my sleeping bag, I gently swayed in a hammock watching as the black night sky studded with silver stars faded to navy and ...

At Sea

Sunday 8th February - Day 26 - At Sea Until now we had enjoyed some excellent weather, today however the calm tranquil almost oily looking sea which we had experienced yesterday had disappeared and instead we were encountering some rather fierce, angry and threatening looking seas with some heavy rain. On rising and drawing the curtains in our state room we were greeted with the site of a ...

... see Gloria sitting on her porch across the way, now sporting a dirty white construction hard-hat. Every once in a while, she came over to our building to give some more orders, but we just didn't seem to hear any of them as they seemed to be spoken in Fijian or Chinese...neither of which we understood. She would stare at us, pause, adjust her hard hat, and then stumble back to her porch and slump down in a plastic chair. It was sad, very sad. But I was glad as hell ...

... all about the local marine life and dives. Remembering the wise words of Greg, the "Yoda of diving" I decided check out another shop before I booked. Snorkelling by the Rarotonga Beach Resort. Not the best conditions today we were told by another tourist on the beach. But we jumped in anyway. It was either that or scooter to Fruits of Rarotonga, but we'd been told that the water could be rough there. Once in there was plenty to see, the fish obviously ...

... of tooting, shouting and waving. Saturday 19th Another lovely sunny warm calm day - 23+ degrees. We've managed to talk ourselves into daily exercise, that's apart from up and down several flights of stairs several times a day, and did our 7 and a bit laps which equates to about 4 kms we think. After an aborted attempt at sending emails in the morning we finally managed a reasonable connection in the afternoon so got that first epistle sent along with our birthday wishes to Colin ...
