Had brunch at the spectacular Fairmont Chateau Whistler and then took the gondola to the top of the mountain. Lots of skiers still around despite the late season. We had some hot chocolate and took in the views. this afternoon we drove back to Vancouver to stay near the airport for our early flight the next day. Lovely hotel but not really 5 star!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Had a great week at the Chateau Feb 2004. Beautiful setting and public rooms are lovely. However, bedroom smaller than we expected for a 5 star hotel and bathroom was average. Public areas in hotel are lovely and very relaxing especially the lobby area and bar. Bit of a walk from bus drop off point to ski storage area. All staff very friendly and helpful.

Chateau is nice!

We have been to Whistler 4x, the first time we stayed at the Chateau.

We are a family of 5 and had 2 adjoining rooms in the lowest category.

The rooms were very nice, clean and comforatble. One room had a king bed and the other 2 queen beds. Both bathrooms had huge showers and soaking tubs. We had a mini bar & a coffee station. The thrill of the Chateau is the awesome lobby. We spent most evenings there eating appetizers and having drinks. There is a cabinet with board games and the kids played scrabble and checkers for hours. Another thing we liked were the big camp fires.. you coudl sit around the fire, with heat lamps above and have drinks and look up at the mountain. The spa is fabulous!!!!!!!!! The outdoor pool a real treat! Dining was excellent.

We ate breakfast daily at Portobellos and dinners we usually walked over to the village. One night we ate at Wildflower and it was fabulous. But our faborite was sushi in the lounge area.Chateau has easy ski in/ot access. The ski valet is convenient and from them you can sign out sled and sled right there. Tons of fun for all ages!As much as we loved the Chateau, for our following trips we wanted kitchen facilities and to be closer to to the village.

Not our best hotel stay

from Cliff1955
We have stayed in all the Fairmont hotels in B.C & Alberta. They are the cream of the crop except for our only and last stay @ the Whistler Chateau. My wife smokes so I make sure we have a smoking room, when we got to our room no ashtray so they brought us one, I went to make a coffee and only one cup so again they brought us one, then no sugar they brought us some. Then the tolet was broken , we went out, they came in to fix it, came back from dinner late. The tolet worked once, I called them back, 12:30 am I'm in the bathroom showing them how to fix it Not the most romantic time. Ask for a room facing the street, ours faced a gravel bank no view at all, for $500. a night any place else would have been better. We have had the best of times @ other Faimont Hotels.

The best place we have ever stayed

We spent two nights here on a pre cruise package. This hotel was the finest property we have stayed at. We find that Canadiens are the nicest people to work with and to have waite on you. The property is spectacular. Very clean and uncluttered. The village is great for shopping, dining or just walking around. Most everything is within walking distance.

Beautiful Hotel, but not a 5 Star

from torta_basilica
Somehow I expected it to be older, but is in a gorgeous setting, beautiful lobby with great decor. Fairmont rooms are not all that big.

We had an upgrade certificate & got a suite (#701 & #703), which was wonderful. Staff very nice, but little things did not add up to a 5 star. No doormen & two heavy front doors to get through, which were difficult for those with strollers, the elderly, etc. Amenities cheap, Fairmont brand - conditioner that didn't work, stingy with soap - did not receive a new bar (& it was little to begin with) during our 3 1/2 night stay. Lots of maid carts always in hallways during the day. If you are not up & out early, room does not get cleaned til very late.

Very cozy beds with down comforters. In this new of a hotel, I expect a separate toilet - reg room's bath have 1 sink, toilet & very dark tub/shower combo. Our suite living room had a separate shower, but still no separate toilet. I really expect this in a recently built 5 star hotel. Our phone system never worked. You would leave a message on our line & we never knew it was there, even after calling operator. We missed several very important phone calls & ruined an evening as we misconnected due to not receiving our phone message. Called the front desk, who were very apologetic, but then never fixed it. Haveily hyped spa. I had a massage booked & was told to show up 30 mins. early.

Expected to be taken to a changing rooms, given robes, offered a steam, whatever, but sat in the waiting room for 25 mins after I filled out my questionnaire, then was taken straight into room, where I changed & had an ok massage. At these rates, I expect a few more services. Ate only in poolside restaurant & had very bland, boring food. Was charged $2.75 additional for an ice tea refill. Little things like this obviously got to me. However, I think the off-season rates are right, it is in a great location, the staff are friendly & had a wonderful time. Just don't call it a five star!

Beautiful hotel

from nocturnalgirl72
The best hotel I have ever stayed in. Truly 5 star and first class. Rooms had everything including bathrobe and rooms were decorated a victorian/ maroon color. Rooms had patio. Spa and pools were great. Turndown service, room service, everything was just superb. Staying here is not cheap but worth every penny.

Beat Hotel We have ever stayed in!

from dreamy
The Fairmont Cateau Whistler is easily the best hotel I've ever stayed in. We were there Dec 2002 and had a fab time even though there was no snow other than the man made stuff. The hotel decor was perfect, the rooms are lovely, the staff are great, in fact we liked it so much that instead of eating out, we ate in the hotel bar every night. We never usually do this! As we were members of the Fairmount Presidents club (free to join) we also got free internet access. I would highly reccomend this hotel to anyone. It has everything!

Excellent

Great hotel

We spent the long weekend in July at the resort and loved it. The service was excellent and the staff was very helpful. Sunday morning there was a fair in the street out front with fresh fruits and vegetables. Lots to do and see.
